People who benefit from tax payers

My mom is renting this apartment to this lady and her 2 kids. The lady is on the "bien-être social" (dunno what its called in english but its like getting money to live when you don't have a job). right fine you are raising your kids on your own. what is frustrating me is that the lady works on the side. both of my parents are working and paying tax and this lady lives on their tax money. It pisses me off because she got all the latest HD television, the latest trends in furniture, accessories, etc and my parents who are both honest workers can't afford all of that. it's frustrating because this lady is supposedly poor and in need and actually, she is living on our tax money and living more than decently. i don't know, it's not fair. this lady could go and work now that her daughters are 15 years +, but no, instead she'd rather keep the help from the state and do side jobs.

rant over. thank you.

Well if you think shes making a shitload of money as well as getting welfare ("bien-être social") than you should report it as welfare fraud.

nah can't do that. this lady lived in our bulding even before my mom bought it. she's a nice lady even if sometimes she becomes arrogant. i know she's been through a lot but some times it just feels that she's more than abusing the system.

Confront her about it.

Really, there are two ways. And two situations. Either you know her or you don't. If you don't it's easy, you do as Glockmatic said. If you're gonna let it slide it should be your duty as a citizen to at least confront her with it. Who knows, maybe she actually has a good explanation. But if you know her and don't want to get her into trouble, you should at least make her feel shameful about it.

At times it feels like she is abusing the ssytem?

She is clearly abusing the system.

How long has she been receiving welfare?

What i don't get is why they keep pumping this money into people's pockets after they havent done anything to improve their situation for years.

Report or die (diddy style)

Regardless if she does it or not, there will always be someone that does it. We all will be paying tax regardless. So, why care? Also, your mom is obviously benefiting from it, so why step on her toes?

^well why care? I'll tell you why because in the end we are going to end up like France and break the country's back because we said "why care".

I'd like to live in a debt free country with low taxes someday. If this goes on like this the opposite will happen.

Honest people seriously have to cut down on living expenses because of taxes that others who don;t really need it use to buy those expenses like a big screen TV.

How is that fair? It's not. Abusing the system should be punished with long jail times to teach people like that a lesson and scare them from ever doing it.

i somewhat agree.

basically, humans have a biological moral compass. when someone does something that your moral compass tells you is wrong, you get an emotional investment in whatever the thing that tilts off your moral compass is.

it's wrong for me. not only do i contribute to letting such people get away with it, but it's extra bitter when i can't do the same.

yeah.. i'm no snitch.

and btw to whoever said my mom is benefiting from this is wrong. actually my mom is a bad owner and she doesnt increase rents enough fast. so over 20 years.. the mismanagement made that the lady is paying $420 for a 5 1/2 when the rent should be about $600.

see, i don't get this. you come in here and talk about how it pisses you off that this lady is living good off taxpayer money, and when you're given the only real option to do something about it (report her for welfare fraud) you say you don't want to do that. so then what is the problem? there is no use complaining about something you can fix if you have no intention of fixing it. either report her, or just suck it up and deal with it.

i'm more concerned about the additional 4 billion there using for the war and the other 2 billion they're using for outer space.

I don't see how anyone paying taxes gets upset with things like this. Besides the TV, which might have been a gift who knows though..., does it not make you feel good that your parents are actually helping this family, and many other people. Indirectly as it may be it is the truth, so feel good about it instead of bitching about it.

To me you look like the crazy white people who think the world is against them like we have in the US. Immigrants take my jobs and all my money goes to welfare, type people, it's pathetic. People should be proud to help the less fortunate not get upset about it.

It's the same way here in the States. Personally, I think it's bullshit to support someone who doesn't have a job and has never had a job, that's what homeless shelters are for. Lazy ass people who don't want to do anything. I'm totally against the entire logic behind welfare as well as the idiots who receive it. These people need to get up and go to work the same as everyone else. It's probably worst in the States. Not only does our money go to welfare recipients, it also goes to support people in jail. WTF? I have to pay money for you to feed someone who's locked up? Forget that. That's nonsense. They should have to pay for their own finances whilst in jail, and if they can't then their family should be responsible, it would be like another bill. And if their family can't pay... then they should acquire a bill, similar to rent for the food, water, heat etc that they are using and they have to pay it back when they got out. If jail wasn't free soo many people wouldn't go.

*end rant*

I have nothing against people claiming them who really need them, it is the people that take the piss and don't need it that piss me off!

i agree with most of what you say except the jail thing. no one likes the idea of having to pay to "take care" of criminals, but your suggestion seems a little far fetched. i mean say one of your relatives commits a crime and ends up in jail. why should you and your family have to suffer as well by having to pay for his prison sentence? you didn't commit the crime so why should you be forced to pay for it? and even though i like the idea of a bill when your sentence is done, who would actually pay it? even if everyone did, it would take years for someone who spent 10 or 15 years in jail to pay it back, especially since no one wants to hire convicts. it just wouldn't work.

however i'm in agreement with the rest of what you said. it pisses me off to know that my tax dollars are supporting not just those who need it (which i have no problem with) but those who don't as well. there are just way too many people taking advantage of the system, here in Canada as well as the US. unfortunately, the way both systems are structured, this kind of thing will continue until they start forcing these people to work for their money.

I don't think it's far-fetched at all. It would be their immediate families. If my son went to jail, I did something wrong somewhere whilst parenting. Are you stating that everyone as a whole should pay for the criminals as opposed to the mother/father etc of the criminal? Fuck that. Why should I have to pay for their bad ass child if they don't want to? Perhaps if people know their loved ones will suffer if they go to jail, they'll stop doing stupid stuff to get put there. I'm sure Bob Criminal doesn't want his wife to have to take four jobs to afford to keep him in jail, so maybe he'll straighten up and fly right. I'd rather my taxes go to pay people's hospital bills rather than their jail stay. Plus they can enforce that it's bad off. While on parole they have to have a job. So, they have to pay a portion of that to their jail stay. If not, they garnish their wages. They do that for child support, do it for their jail stay. And if they don't pay, they go back to jail and accumulate a larger bill. Their life is ruined. Who cares? They shouldn't have been doing whatever they did to get there in the first place.
