Ok, wait a minute. I know you get all sensible when it comes to footy so im gonna be polite:

I said impressed by his achievemnts, meaning the titles he has won. Sure there are other players who have won more than he did. This says nothing about him being a great football player or not, but thats not what i denied with my statement anyway.

I cant remember having said that i was impressed by Toni scoring 24 (not 30) goals in his first season.

Single handedly? Dont know about that. I havent seen the world cup in 86.

Let me clear up something: Of course im impressed by the football player Diego Armando Maradona. Anyone who is not, is a fool. And again, i never said im not impressed by him as a player.

Usually when it comes to the debate of who was the best ever, four names are brought up: Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, Beckenbauer.

Do you see something? Right, three of them are offensive players and Beckenbauer is the only one who isnt. That alone shows what an outstanding guy he was, as a player. - And no, im not saying he is the best ever.

No?

Yeah, what about him? Im interested to hear it...

Comparing them to Maradona (character/personality wise) is moronic in itself.

No shit, the guy way human? God help you if you needed his drug addiction to realise it.

Edit: What an ownage.
sensible? perhaps you meant sensitive?

An ownage?. really? You accused him of having a moronic character. In fact he had great character. He was and still is an icon for the impoverished. How can a moron as you described him as go from living in a one room shack in the slums of buenos aires to become one of the best and most intelligent football players ever? You said that you weren't impressed by what he has achieved and i am asking you if winning a world cup and playing in another world cup final is not impressive. Yea, both of those Argentina team had other good players but if you took Maradona out of them, they wouldnt be half the team.

And yea, you brought up that point about Toni when you disagreed that he wasnt a world class stiker.

There is no denying that Beckenbaur and Muller are greats. i meant that as a joke.

I could easily label Effenburg as having a moronic character because the guy was a bit of an asshole in fainess, especially with some of the comments he makes in the media. I also question the someone who nearly kills an oppostion player on the pitch.

You didnt understand my last comment. So there is the ownage.

go spain.

Spain - Russia

Wtf? Where were the Ruski's? Piece of shit Dutch losing to them, should've never happened. Dammit.

Best player ever is impossible to say,. The game changed a lot. It became more physical, with higher pace etc etc.

And on an different note, I wouldn't even have Maradona in the top 3 of best players ever.

Yeah, what about that, eh?

most of the football you see nowadays is all kick and rush bullshit. Thats why its more physical because its all about strength and running.Back in the old days it was all about skill and flair. The game was slower

Who is your top 3 duke?. Cruyff is number one i presume. Van Basten is there too.one of my favorite players ever. Great players. i cant believe that Maradona wouldnt make your top 3. crazy talk lol.

It's still about skill and flair. The ante just went up, though. All players have to work harder because the game changed that way.

I don't have a fixed top three. I never saw Cruijff and Pele actively play, I can't judge them. I think very highly of Zidane, but I've got no one to compare him with.

On Maradona, I don't rate him that highly. :) It's purely subjective, of course, and I will explain why.

Diego could do ridiculous things with a ball. I won't deny that. But football is a game played by 11 men per team. Not 1. He did everything alone. Now, admittedly, he was so stupidly skilled he often enough actually managed to do it alone, but it's a mentality thing imo. He could've been even better if he had a smidget more creativity and vision.

Maradona is the most popular because of his actions on the ball. That's what most average fans like to see. FIFA-game style tricks.

IMO a player like Cruijff or Pele or Zidane is a better FOOTBALL player because they realize they have to pass the ball as well.

Maradona was more of a circus artist with a ball imo.

^^ I dont agree with that at all, what you're saying is who is the best football team player?

When we talk about the best players in the world we talk about individuals, the same goes for any sport. Put Jordan in his prime on any team and watch the wins pile up.

In my opinion Maradona was the most skilled football player ever. You cant knock Best or Pelle either, but Maradona was just magic.

But I understand what you are saying regarding Football having lost its flair, you are totally right, nowadays it is about speed and strength, and I think Ronaldo was the perfect combination of the two eras and styles of play.

Anyway, go Germany!

Sorry, Ruk, but you're wrong. Football is not about doing tricks with a ball. Period.

And the Jordan comparison isn't valid, either. Jordan was a good team player, he had skills over the whole line. Maradona could do one thing and he could do that one thing ridiculously well.

Football hasn't lost it's flair either. That's nostalgic nonsense.

I agree. Maradona did play for the team. How else could Argentina have won a world cup and contested another final. How could Napoli have been so successful while he was there. And he wasnt just flicks and tricks with the ball. His passing and speed of thought were second to none.

lol @ almost German own goal.

and triple lol @ saying Maradona had great passing. Sometimes, Bobby...seriously, there's a hint of bacho in your words. Not saying Diego was a bad passer, but ffs....

Torres could play all alone against our defense and he would still score.

Cause our defense is such a piece of shit.

Oh, yeah, 45 left and ill be gone for some time. I doubt we will turn this game into a win.

The Spanish are dominating but its only still 1-0...

Kuranyi in for Hitzlsperger. Weird sub. Germany already had problems in midfield.

I only caught the second half of the finale, but that was damn good football if you ask me. I was only disappointed there weren't more goals. Spain should've won by at least two goals. They had so much more finesse, and their defense was pretty good. They snapped up most balls pretty quick. The development into the second half where Germany got their game back a little was very interesting. Grats Spain, sucks 2 B U Germany lawl. Let's hope Sebastian didn't make it through the night.
