Boulahrouz Leaves Dutch Group Over Family Tragedy
In a statement, the KNVB said the prematurely born daughter later died.

Netherlands defender Khalid Boulahrouz left Dutch Euro 2008 training on Wednesday after his wife was taken to hospital with pregnancy complications, the Dutch football association (KNVB) said on Thursday.
----

In a statement, the KNVB said the prematurely born daughter later died.

Coach Marco van Basten later told a news conference that Boulahrouz would remain a part of the squad for the rest of the finals.

Boulahrouz started all three of Netherlands' group victories in the tournament.

The Dutch play Russia in Saturday's quarter-final in Basel.

Italy defender Andrea Barzagli will miss the rest of UEFA EURO 2008™ after suffering a knee injury in training.

Meniscus injury
The centre-back, who has agreed to join VfL Wolfsburg from US Città di Palermo this summer, ruptured the meniscus in his left knee in training at the Azzurri's Maria Enzersdorf base. Subsequent scans revealed that Barzagli requires an operation and will play no further part in the competition. Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro had sustained a serious ankle ligament injury on the first day of training at Maria Enzersdorf.

Defensive blow
Although the 27-year-old Barzagli was omitted for the Azzurri's last two Group C matches having started the 3-0 defeat by the Netherlands, his absence will be a blow to Roberto Donadoni nonetheless. The coach is left with Marco Materazzi and Alessandro Gamberini as cover for his first-choice centre-half pairing of Christian Panucci and Giorgio Chiellini. Like Cannavaro before him, Barzagli has decided to stay with the squad as they prepare to face Spain in Sunday's Vienna quarter-final. He will undergo surgery in Austria.

Both Portugal and Germany look weak at the back, Ronaldo's ripping zee defense a new one. Germany 2-1 up at half time though.

2:0 and we are still playing like we need to score another goal. What the fuck were they thinking, eh? Motherfuckers should watch italy play and take a look at how to defend a 1:0, let alone 2:0. Man, we were nearly in the semi final but nooooo....

You are ahead and deservedly so but you can play defensively and still concede, Portugal are dangerous on the counter. It's gonna be a good second half.

Ballack again, poor defending though. 3-1 now and he scores points for my dream team. Nice!!

Germans are knockout specialists. 30 mins left so they should hold on now.

What fucking match were you watching in all fairness?or did you make that post after the only time in the game he actually did something. When his poor shot fell straight to Gomes? Ronaldo was an absolute disgrace tonight. Possibly the biggest prick i have seen playing football. He stood up for most the game and went hiding in the last 10-15 minutes when his team needed him to get on the ball and make things happen. Then, there was his disgraceful play-acting when Freidrich barely stood on his foot.

Well done Germany. I am happy they won as i dont like Portugal. The goals from the set pieces were killer(Ronaldo letting his man go on one of them). Very poor defending. Germany's first goal was brilliant. Their defense is worrying though. there isnt much pace there. Ballack had a good game as had Schweinsteiger, Podolski and Klose. For Portugal i thought Deco was their best player.
