Mosque to go up near New York's ground zero

Here there are good and bad Catholics. Some are extreme about their beliefs. There are also similarly extreme people who are not Catholic. Then there are Catholic people who are actually nice.
But yeah, I usually have the worst experiences with those "most religious". Fundamentalists, extremists etc. They are pretty rare here though. Usually old people.

But it's like Ristol has said - it goes to all people in general that they will do a lot in the name of their beliefs.

I think they should put up mosques all over the place.... it reduces the chances of them blowing up any nearby buildings
I saw this topic on another forum and just didn't post a response but I thought the same exact thing. That's crazy that you said that two months ago, yet I don't remember reading this. I thought I'd get in trouble for saying that.

if for whatever reason I actually believed that I had an hour to live, I'd radically change the agenda of my day from whatever it was--buying beer, listening to the Ghostbusters II soundtrack...
I wouldn't do those things if I thought I had a hundred years to live. ;)

There are extremists everywhere. I just wonder if the Muslims will begin to demand arrangements be made for the surrounding community to meet their needs. I've argued on a few forums but they don't seem to see the potential snowball effect I think this thing could have.

Muslims can't eat pork, drink alcohol, and some Muslims consider dogs like pigs (untouchable) and some Muslims consider music haram.

If some Americans are having issues with the mosque being built so close to GZ, won't the Muslims have problems if there's a butcher shop down the street? A dog walking by? A stray dog running around the community center? A Tower Records down the street? A liquor store nearby? People blasting loud music as they drive by?

I think a lot of Muslims have shown that they are just as paranoid about Americans hating Muslims as much as Americans are paranoid about Muslims hating them back and being terrorists. So if some demands of the Muslims are not met, do you think they will be quick to jump and play the..."religion card?"

I really hate how people use that argument that the area will have to be all Muslim'd out. The same reason their buildings are being allowed to be built is the same reason I can walk my dog down the street or blast my music at a relatively high volume.

You would think that, but I think that some Muslims, especially the clerics, do not think rationally and understand the concept of freedom of speech and actions. I feel the Muslims will declare a jihad and just tear into us for not giving in to meet their demands. Maybe I'm wrong. But running planes into towers isn't the best example of freedom of speech, is it? So they don't think like us.

I dunno. We'll see. I predict that this thing will be vandalized very badly very soon, or will constantly get vandalized, little by little. Jail time? There are a good number of people opposed to this. I think they have enough people to fuck shit up if they wanted to.

i have a lot to say about this and i've read all responses.

the idea of a mosque near ground zero, although constitutional, is outrageous.

islam wants to control the world. they want everyone converted or killed. despite the fact that there are myriad musims who want nothing but peace makes no difference. the fact is, the people who flew panes into the twin towers follow the same book as the muslims on your street corner. the fact that the passive musims you know decide to pick and choose and interpret the text in different ways is entirely irrelevant. it just means that they are muslims who really stand for nothing except a set of ideals that that they have picked and chosen to be benign. read the Koran --- it's plain and simple. it justifies, moreover promotes violence and killing in the name of its cause. i dont' give a fuck if the people at the mosque want nothing but peace. At the end of the day, the book they adhere to is the same book the hijakers adhered to, they are merely making a conscious choice to ignore/dumb down the violence depicted and encouraged in it.

we have come to an age in history where science is realizing that we don't need religion to fill the gaps with our doubts and our questions...the answers our coming. if humankind eventually destroys itself, it will no doubt be caused by our collective neurological disorder of religious thought and our belief that that there is something better after death---which undoubtedly hinders our ability to improve life while we are here

I agree, but is there a source that quotes the Quran with the lines you mentioned?

As much as I despise religion as a whole.. I rarely despise the individuals who make up the whole. (though i'd be lying if I didn't say I respected them less due to their psychosis). However.. if I meet an individual who believes that my dogs are "unclean" because of some nonsense literature fairytales and their imaginary sky friend I will quite possibly hit them with something. >.<

This is a load of shit.

Every power in the world does what you just described. America does it under the guise of spreading democracy, The USSR did it under the guise of communism, the islamic world is just doing it under the guise of Islam. As long as there is a need for resources its going to happen.

A mosque 2 blocks away from ground zero means nothing to me. Then again, I'm not American. In my opinion, sacfricing citizens of the country for the oil of another country is much more offensive

^ummm lol first of all dont' say what i've said is a load of shit and then do nothing to refute it. i never said islam is the only one at fault in the world. i simply stated why islam is as fault in this particular case. going to war to obtain oil is undoubtedly wrong, but at least oil is real.

and if you're not american, this issue doesn't effect you nearly as much. you want 747s buried in your skyscrapers?

I'd rather go through 9/11 then live somewhere like Iraq or Afghanistan and go through that sort of turmoil on the daily. I'm not saying they have shit like 9/11 happen to them everyday but when my soldier friends tell me what they tell me and basically say the same exact thing then I have no qualms about saying that.

Muslims build a Mosque near your Ground Zero, you build a military base near their Ground Zeros, yes not just one but many. So what's all the fuss about?

Did anyone else besides me just find out that Donald Trump offered to buy the land that this mosque is supposed ot be built on for 25% more than the asking price? Funny

The Iman behind the mosque said he didn't realise they'd be an uproar.... Yeah, right... But he's not backing down now.

Typical religious idiots. On one hand we have the moron who is burning Koran's under the guide of Christianity, and on the other we have the idiot building a mosque in the area where 3000 people were killed under the name of Islam.
