I see little real difference between OSX and WIN7 to be honest. I'm fully competent with both, as well as Ubuntu. I don't think OSX is any more "intuitive" or "Simple" than Windows - there are things in all three OS's that could be made a lot simpler. They just have different approaches.

However, I like to try a wide range of software and there's just more options with Windows.

Both of them seem clunky in an increasingly cloud based world. Most people spend 90% of their time in their browser these days, which is why Chrome OS is going to be in a very good position as more and more people realize that.

I know that I would be annoyed if removing an icon would remove the program.
Yeah. It's a fucking horrible way of doing things.

Sofi, you asked why I think that it is limited so I gave my answer. In my surroundings most people use laptops for work too, at least to some extent.

So games and whatever you might come across at random that are Windows-only are the biggest problem. That is until you like the way Mac works.

I will admit that in the IT world, a Mac may not be the best or as developed. But with the majority of the business world being Windows, why would a Mac make sense?

For personal computing, which is the only thing I have ever used a computer for, I find Macs to be more enjoyable. I should be more specific and say that Apple notebooks give me the best experience.

I've mentioned it before, but I'll mention it again, solely for Pittsey's sake. Backlit keyboard is beautiful and amazing thing to have. For obvious reasons, like typing in the dark, but even during the day, they're an added bonus for visibility. At night, I watch movies in bed with the lights off. The keyboard controls are perfect for pausing, playing, volume, etc. Having them backlit is a bonus, considering the lamps in my room are controlled by a switch which I turn off. So there's no leaning over and turning a lamp on just to press pause for me.

The trackpad is also nuts. That's where the "intuitive" moniker comes into play. Sure, it's relative, and some people may not find it as "intuitive" but I haven't found a person yet that hates it. For this, I'll just have to tell you to go to an Apple store, ignore the hipsters, and just browse the web using the trackpad. Browse the menus of OSX using the trackpad. It's a great experience. You'll never want to use a mouse again.

It seems that everyone here has a different view of Apple users. In Poland, they're seen as shit and overpriced. Apparently, "no one buys them." Or no one "smart," at least. In England, from what you say, iPhones are for hipsters and stuck up twats. Fine.

But in the States, it varies. In the city, I'm sure it's a bunch of hipsters in their faggot glasses and knit hats in summer, and man-bags and shit. Where I live, in the suburbs, there are about 3 or 4 Apple stores in a 20-30 mile radius, mostly in malls. This isn't including the few in the actual city of Chicago. When I go there, there are people of all ages and colors. Especially Mexicans. It's like a museum and everyone is there looking and trying out the new stuff there. They're fascinated by it. There are little kids and old-ass geezers there. It's so diverse in that store, it's hard for me to honestly say that Apple is a company strictly for hipsters or people that know nothing about computers. If you like the way something looks, you wouldn't consider buying it? Who cares if Lenovo makes a better PC for 3/4 the price? Are you going to use all that power to begin with? If you're going to browse the web and do basic computing, it doesn't mean you buy a piece of shit hunk of plastic and be miserable every time you look at it. Some people want something pleasing to the eyes, regardless of the use of their machines.

If you go to Canada, I implore you to walk onto a university campus. Sit in a classroom or look for a place where people commonly use their computers. The rest of the world seems to be much different than Poland. And to some of us, Poland seems to be an anomaly when it comes to Apple products.

Macbooks weren't the first or the only laptops with Backlit keyboard. Most (or at least many) higher class laptops have it too. My 2004 IBM laptop has it and I agree that it's useful. Actually it has a lot of things that modern laptops are missing, preventing me from switching.

Actually I think that mostly America and a part of Western Europe are where Apple are popular, rest of the world not so much, not only Poland. Now I'm trying to prevent my personal opinion about Mac OS X from affecting my judgement here. I really don't like it but nevertheless I tried to mention its flaws that are only pretty objective, or so I think. If it wasn't for Sofi's "You're going to love OS X, seriously" I wouldn't have mentioned that at all, all again :p because I disagree that it's so obvious to 'love' OS X over Windows 7, especially coming from Windows 7.

I see no reason why he wouldn't unless he has that nerdy thing in him where he can't enjoy a product unless it's "the best out" by some nerdy measure. :p

Masta's the type who will always take the shortest destination route. It's all about efficiency and optimization as if he has Nazi in him. Don't expect Masta to take the scenic route, he can't see joy in that. :D

Not really, I quite enjoy scenic routes, I can enjoy good design too :p

Macbook Air looks good and I have to admit that. I'd go as far as saying that if it came with no MAC OS X and no shiny Apple logo I would gladly buy a laptop that looks that nice. But I don't think that their operating systems look that great compared to Windows 7. Both look good. Windows = bigger possibilities. So yeah, why take the scenic route if you can take a nice one and faster, where you can do more if you wish. Especially if you've been there and dislike the particular scenic route :p

By the way In case I wanted to get one Macbook air and take it back to Poland where do I get one for the best price? I'm aware of the warranty not being valid here and the American keyboard layout though, which means a smaller value here but I should still be able to play with it and judging by the 'official' price I could still sell for about the same price that I got it for. The question is are there any places where I could get one for cheaper?

Also I thought that getting myself an Android phone would be a good idea since prices seem to be more reasonable there. What are the best places to get them (or electronics overall)? I suppose I'd have to go for unlocked ones.

Amazon. See if you can get one delivered, unlocked, from Amazon mobile.

Also, I know MacBooks weren't the first to have backlit keyboards. But I don't see it as a feature on any notebook I read about on blogs. Which, again, isn't to say PCs don't have it.

In Poland, WiFi is everywhere, you say. That's why you really don't have a data plan for your phone. It's a couple MB a month, right? But that's not the case in the US. That doesn't mean we do the same, get a 20MB plan a month and just not surf the web if there's no WiFi around. I understand there are big differences between the two countries. As far as Apple goes, the fact that Poland as no Apple store and relies on "resellers" to sell Apple products tells us a lot about what they think of it there. Resellers charge a premium too, I'm sure, so there's another reason why Apple products are expensive there.

If you fall into the categories of "Media person" (ie Editing audio, video and images semi-/professionally) or "I dont use my computer for anything other than facebook and itunes" then a Mac is for you.

If you want to do anything else, don't waste your time.

I'm not saying dont buy one. Id buy a Mac if I had the money, because I do alot of image editing. But thats solely what i'd use it for.

Be careful importing stuff from overseas, If Poland is anything like the UK, you'll get RAPED by import tax.

Even if you physically go to America to buy it, customs could fuck you over.

I think the UK is a maximum value of £40 for goods mailed, £150 brought into the country in person. Anything above that and the tax man enters your rectum, unlubed.

Yeah, that's why I'd take one as mine (device + charger only).

By the way Pittsey, it's raining Intel ultrabooks now:

Good job Apple, this time. It's what I like about Apple. They sometimes come up with ideas that make other companies go in their direction and usually outrun them, or adapt Apple's ideas into their own products.
Macbooks will still get a much bigger mind-share though, so people will buy them regardless but at least there are alternatives now.

I don't know about Canada, which I'm assuming is where you're going. Best Buy, maybe? Apple requires all authorized resellers to keep the price the same. So pretty much, wherever you go, all Apple products will cost the same. If it's not an authorized reseller, it might be even more. I doubt a place would buy Apple products to sell at a lower price than others when there is money to be made in these products.

So short answer is anywhere. It doesn't matter, they should all be the same.

I do alot of server work, remote desktop work. Sometimes gaming. In the past I did alot of programming and a lil bit of hacking.

Basically alot of Network related stuff.

Nothing I'd ever try and do on a Mac because its a waste of time.

Imagine COD on a Mac?

Me "Dude, how the fuck do I scope??"
Friend "Right Click stupid"
Me "BUT I DONT HAVE A RIGHT CLICK"
