I naturally don't have deep conversations with others, nor is my mind filled with the content of small talk. Isolation made me in its own image. So the deepest conversations are the ones I have with myself. Yet, in the middle of a conversation with myself, I often feel a sudden need to talk to someone else, so, as evening sets, I wander through the streets looking about me, and each person offers me some snippet of experience, each house some novelty, each tree some advice.

My silent walk is one long conversation, and all of us, people, houses, trees, and sky, are one great comradely crowd, elbowing each other with words in the great procession of Fate.
words of wisdom right there :p
Jokerman, what's your major?

I kinda disagree with this whole thread.
I don't like how people can consider some topics more meaningful than others, just because society has tought us that some things are more important.
People can learn a lot more from a joke than they learn from a whole discussion or endless debate.

ppk consider the ideas they are interested in meaningfull just because they want to consider themselves important.
I'm not trying to offend anybody, but just 4 example, do you ppk consider this as a meaningful thread??? and why is it in WOW instead of TM????

I'd much rather have an indepth conversation over a meaningless chit chat any day. In fact, I suck when it comes to making small talk. This is why people think I am shy and quiet, but the truth is, I prefer not to speak, unless I feel I have nothing valuable to say.
Yeah i'm the same to.

It's hard to find someone to have a meaningful conversation with, if I try to with my mates they just make a joke about the whole situation about how they don't give a shit. I think that if more people gave a shit, they might open up their minds and the world could be a better place.

By the way the best people I've found to have conversations that mean something are the females :thumb:

There is a huge difference between talking Global Politics or Who won American Idol. a Huge Difference between talking Economics and talking about What Celebrity couple is hot at the moment.

IF you think that these things are even on the same level of importance I pity you.

That being said I like how you are challenging "Importance".;)

***EDIT***

I would like to add that it is my belief "Society" has placed more importance on what I would call Irrelevant issues I.E. Celebrity's, TV, Other Peoples personal problems, ETC.....
So if anything society is teaching us those things are important and that is why little attention is paid to issues that impact lives.

I was reading some Noam Chomsky and he made a great observation, he was telling how he was riding a Bus or (train) and heard people talking passionately and well informed, able to use statistics to back up arguments. He realized that basically anyone could be well informed on things such as Politics if such topics where more Attractive to them.

Exactly. So true. Just such a shame the overwhelming majority doesn't give a shit, never opening their minds to greater issues, seeking the answers from others and when they aren't provided, they criticise (whether it relates to religion or government, this seems to be the approach to me.)

Thanz for your pity :( i feel much better now knowing that you care

"Society" didn't place more importance on these futile issue. Society is what tought us that anyone who can read something in a book and than use the author's opinion in a debate is "educated and smart".

If your referring to the media focusing on these futile issues such as celebrities and whatever, they aren't teaching us what's important, they are just giving most ppl what they want.

I just hate the ppl who snob others just because they are talking about "unimportant stuff".
If you look at politics for example, even on this board, you see endless debates and opinions from users most of which don't have any idea what they are talking about. I m not saying it's a bad thing, but it's not better than ppl who talk about cars or sex or movies.

I do not look down my nose at people that rather talk about Shaq's New Car, or what Someone wore to the Oscars. I Just either tell them I don't care or take the opportunity to inject the conversation with something I think is important.

I would not put a "Good" or "Bad" Quantitative value on topics of discussion, however There are certainly things that are more relevant then others on the large scale.

P.S. I did not mean to Pity you not sure what I wrote that made you think that?

P.P.S. you make some great points and I can tell our beliefs are more similar then different.
