US Marine Corps has declined to provide details of the crash

A US Marine Corps helicopter has crashed in western Iraq killing at least 31 US servicemen while six other soldiers were killed in clashes with armed groups.

"Early this morning, 30 Marines and one sailor of the 1st Marine Division and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force died when their CH-53E 'Super Stallion' helicopter crashed near Ar Rutbah [in] Al Anbar Province here in Iraq," said Lt General John Sattler from his headquarters at Falluja.

The US military had earlier issued a statement saying "a US Marine Corps transport helicopter crashed on 26 January at approximately 1.20am (2220 GMT Tuesday) near al-Rutbah while conducting security and stabilisation operations".

Earlier in the day, speaking to Aljazeera from Ramadi, Muhammad Abd al-Rahman, an independent Iraqi journalist, said local residents reported seeing several US military helicopters on low-altitude flights over the area where the crash took place, which is apparently beyond the reach of civilians.

US forces use transport aircraft for ferrying both goods and troops in response to frequent attacks on US convoys on Iraq's roads, Abd al-Rahman said.

Vulnerable aircraft

But as these aircraft fly at relatively slow speeds and at low altitudes, they are vulnerable to rocket attacks by fighters who can fire and withdraw.

No group has claimed responsibility for the downing of the helicopter so far, he added.

Four US marines were killed in
the western province of Anbar

The US Marines declined to provide the cause of the crash.

It said a search-and-rescue operation was under way. The statement said casualties would be confirmed later.

In a separate incident, four US marines were killed in the western province of Anbar on Wednesday, the military said in a statement.

One soldier was killed in a clash with fighters north of Baghdad, the US military also said, while another was killed in a bomb blast in the capital itself.

"A Task Force Baghdad soldier died from an improvised-explosive-device detonation about 4.30 pm (1330 GMT) 26 January," said a US military statement.

The latest fatalities mark the highest single-day toll of US soldiers in Iraq - 37 - pushing the total to 1418 since the March 2003 invasion.

The crash came as US-led forces, Iraqi national guardsmen, interim government offices and other election targets were hit around the country.

Get the fuck out or die!

Props to the Iraqis fighting against the rape of their country which is made all the more impressive by the fact they got fucked up by Saddam previously when they tried to rise up & were betrayed by the Americans. They've dusted themselves off to fight a new enemy.

Somebody really needs to tell non-Iraqis the cold truth;
Get the fuck out or die!

How come all these helecopter seem to be falling from the sky. This is bullshit, America is afraid to admit the their helicopter got blown the fuck up. Whenever you hear about a death, it always due to some bullshit accident. This is just America tryin to live up to their "superpower status" and not admit defeat in any form what so ever.

if you like it or not, he's right. I mean, do you think they gonna stop? It doesn't look like that, does it?
No, its not going to stop. But there is a certain level of respect you should have, and not celebrate when people die.

I got no respect for anyone, whether a soldier or not, occupying a land that's not his.
lol what did you expect?ask your soldiers if they were interested in having a cop of coffee with me?I got tens of Iraqi friends, some of them have lost family members, most of those I know got their houses destroyed. My whole view on this is rather personal than political.

Since you have iraqi friends you might be able to tell me...... they want the US to leave, ok, I can understand that. But doesn't they fear what could happen when the US would leave now? We all know there'd be a big danger that warlords would take over the power and with the different religions there we could easly have a civil war...for those reasons, even if I ever was against this war, I have to say the US can't leave now. Don't they see it this way too? Or are they just kinda blind in their hate and don't think about what could happen after the US occupation?

Just so no one gets the wrong idea, this was made to troll me.

I think alot of people here have no concept of living and dieing, it's internet to alot of people here.

In war their is death, it happens. I personally take no joy in seeing anyone die nor will I ever. But it's inevitable. RIP to the Marines, they are now on duty. Semper Fi

"Should the Army and Navy gaze on Heaven's scenes they will find the streets gaurded by United States Marines."

Wow I'm suprised to hear that from you but I strongly agree......what about no longer make such shitty statements like "Should the Army and Navy gaze on Heaven's scenes they will find the streets gaurded by United States Marines."

cause If I go to heaven boy, I don't want to see no marine, no terrorist, no weapons, no hate. I want to see naked women and Lessi.
