Android watch out! Lets see how big the leap is, ay?

How the multitasking is handled will be interesting. People want it, but people also want the battery to last. Supposedly, three versions of the OS is floating around. I'm not sure what that means. One for 3G, one for 3Gs and another for iPad or next iPhone? Multitasking on jailbroken iPhones seems to be inconsistent. My iPhone is jailed so I can't say for sure but some people claim sluggish performance and others say it's fine. Obviously, this event is a preparation for the next iPhone update in June/July. That brings up another point - possibly two iPhones are on the way. Would that explain the different versions? Or are they for optimizing the OS for the spec difference? Because you best believe Apple is going for the faster custom chip in the next iPhone update which would allow for better multitasking. Will the tasks be limited on older model iPhones? Hmmmm

480x320 is looking mighty old with all those purrdy Android phones running around. How will the screen resolution be handled? How will the older apps be handled once the iPhone shifts to a bigger resolution? The upscaling on the iPad leaves room for improvement. Hmmm

Time to set Android back a year or two again! (trying not to overhype but I had to say that)

Spring is in the air my friends, the spring is in the air.

Apple's tech specs never wow. Even with the iPad, more people are impressed with how the components of the iPad inside are arranged symmetrically than the tech specs of the software itself. Also, people are stoked on the apps. I would be too. Some sick ones. Fuck an elements app, but even the CNN app looks too sick. Bloomberg too. I'll get the iPad when it's worth it - a camera, multi-tasking..for the same price you paid. *Hahh*.

Specs on mobile devices, when you talk about CPU GHz and RAM etc, can't be easily compared to another device running another OS. Software optimization plays a big role here.

One phone could have a bigger screen but its touch sensors could be inferior.
One tablet can have 1.6GHz CPU running Windows 7 and it will last you 5 hours,
while 1GHz CPU running an iPhone OS will last you 10 hours.

Comparing numbers never amounts to anything unless you're talking something like hours and resolution. You don't know how the software will perform until you have held the device in you hand.

Symmetry's surely important aspect of industrial design. You've seen exotic cars with clear hoods right?

You should be kissing the ground the beta testers walk on. I make your life better in a materialistic way, S O F I.

Strange that it comes from an Apple fanboy!

Touch sensors? Most new mid to high end devices use the same gen of capacitive touchscreen.

One tablet can have 1.6GHz CPU running Windows 7 and it will last you 5 hours,
while 1GHz CPU running an iPhone OS will last you 10 hours.
And another 1.6ghz tablet with Windows will last you even 12 hours ;)

Comparing numbers never amounts to anything unless you're talking something like hours and resolution.
Typical from an Apple fanboy! Strange thing is that even IPad uses an IPS screen and they have like 5 thousand better reasons to market that device. In my opinion its screen is the most awesome thing about the IPad. With all honesty - it's nice. And I don't really care about its resolution, fruitboy!
Things that really, really matter are not mentioned on spec sheets.

I had to, my dear <3

I'm not sure why that's strange. Oh, I know, because I think Macs with a slower CPU can perform better than a PC with a faster CPU. But you think Macs are under powered compared to your PC. Who knows who's right?

I can't say for certain that this was a fair test, but here

iPhone, Droid, Nexus One, and Eris capacitive touch screens compared | 9 to 5 Mac

"last you even 12 hours"

probably weighs twice as much

"Things that really, really matter are not mentioned on spec sheets."

that's what I'm saying when I say you need to hold it in your hand

It's not even revealed yet and you guys are already mad?

Lets all have a group hug!

Looking forward to this, I wonder if Apple will make any changes to the UI the current one I think looks a lil dated.

Multitasking will be big news for iPad owners and I think a nice to have feature for iPhone users. Personally I don't see myself really having the need to multi-task beyond what the iPhone already is capable of.

What will android users complain about if it gets multi-tasking tho! lol

S.Fourteen do you have an iPad yourself? whats your thoughts after using it? recommend it?

And your completely right about Macs with slower CPU performing better than a PC with better hardware specs. In my experience a GB of RAM on a mac is almost equal to 2GB on a PC. I guess thats just what you get when you optimize the software (OSX) for the hardware.

lol at 9tomac.com. This was not a fair test and authors don't even know how these displays work. Let "light pressure" and "medium pressure" be an example. You can't put pressure on a capacitive touchscreen. Definitely it's only about hardware and software calibration of a capacitive "sensor". When I played with my Samsung's I could easily change the sensitivity so it would respond to my finger even if it was about 2mm from the screen itself - that's how capacitive technology works in contrast to resistive where you have to actually press the screen. Most screens are calibrated to fit about 90% of people's fingers so you need to place your finger on the screen AND it has to detect a huge enough part of your finger to respond. And it has nothing to do about pressure. Naturally while using more "pressure" a bigger part of your finger will touch the screen thus it's required if your touch screen is calibrated to be "not so sensitive".
Probably "out of the box" Iphone's sensor is calibrated to be more sensitive while HTC and Moto would differ to protect from random clicks maybe?

Or just calibrated and optimized better...
It was also posted on TechCrunch as well, 9tomac.com is just reporting it.

S.Fourteen do you have an iPad yourself? whats your thoughts after using it? recommend it?
It's great. The screen space is the biggest winner, obviously. I'm able to do more with it. The specs may be low compared another device but it runs a phone os and runs it very smoothly. The number of HD apps are still limited but that should change soon enough and they are still light weight so there's no worrying about filling the storage up and slowing down the machine - can a machine running a desktop OS accomplish the same without control of how efficient the third party apps are? Although I'm not much of a reader, I did download the iBook app and I was surprised to see it contain a bunch of free public domain books. Flicking the pages is smooth and natural. I have not had chance to watch a full length film but the HD movie trailers look great and the battery last forever on this thing.

If you're an iPhone user and love it, I would definitely recommend it. If you're the kind of person that gets by with the current set-up of the iPhone ecosystem, then you won't regret your purchase. In fact, you'll barely use your iPhone after getting the iPad. But there certainly isn't anything wrong with waiting for the next revision if you want a camera, and perhaps other improvements. It might be a wise decision to wait for the next storage bump. If your budget only allows the starting price, then I would wait for the 32GB to be bumped to the starting point.

^Damn it, you're ruining it for Apple. You're being a naughty fanboy. It's supposed to create it's own niche in your use, not cannibalize the iPhone.

I'll have to call Steve Jobs to chew you out.

Masta, which type of touch-screen technology do you prefer, resistive?
It depends. In mainstream products I prefer capacitive but resistive is cheaper, more accurate and you can use a stylus to write and draw. They are way less sensitive though. On the other hand higher end resistive touch screens are superior in my opinion but they are very rarely implemented.
They are very sensitive too, they are waay more accurate and again you can use tools like stylus.

6. Game Center

50,000 games
Social gaming network

Matchmaking
Leaderboard
Achievements

7. iAd - Mobile Advertising

60% revenues for the developers
Apple sells and hosts the ads
Ads look and act like apps inside apps

"So all this is done in HTML5 by the way." LOL Go Steve!!

Steve "We have a lot of free or reasonably priced apps... we like that, but our devs have to find ways to make money. So our devs are putting ads into apps, and for lack of a better way to say it, we think most of this kind of advertising sucks."

"When you look at ads on a phone, it's not like a desktop. On a desktop, search is where it's at. But on mobile devices, that hasn't happened. Search is not happening on phones; people are using apps. And this is where the opportunity is to deliver advertising is."

"You know the ads on the web -- they're eye catching and interactive, but they don't deliver emotion. What we want to do with iAds is deliver interaction and emotion."

"So that's what iAd is all about. It's about motion plus interactivity. The ads keep you in your app. Today when you click on a banner ad, it yanks you out of your app and throws you onto the advertisers web page. So people don't click on the ads."

Steve "We are releasing it for end users for iPhone and iPod touch for users this summer. For the 3GS and iPod touch 3rd gen. And, for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2nd gen, they will run many things... but there are some things they won't run, like multitasking."

"And, we're bringing OS 4 to the iPad this Fall."

that's the basic rundown folks.
today was a good day

Here's one for Casey

“You can, your kids can,” use your iPhone’s web browser to search “porn” and “porn store” and find all sorts of yummy adult content. Give me a break – if people really want it their going to find it and get it.
then

There is something to be said for Jobs’ desire to retain Disney-like control of his company’s moral stature and attempting to ensure the safest experience for its customers.
Fail?

But taking a swing at Android for allowing users to do what they want?
Yes, fail.

Internet ≠ App Store

What about some Android phones that are stuck at 1.5?

That's an unimportant detail, I guess.

You freetards are running out of tricks!

You say "Disney-like control" like it's a good thing.

As for Android fragmentation, that is a very minor issue. Very, very, minor. Most users don't care about it, and anyway, aren't only the iPhone 3GS and latest gen iPod Touch compatible with 4.0? Thought so.

Besides, Android have already planned to circumvent the fragmentation issue in the next major release by including core apps in the Market.

you're not getting it

Releasing a feature that will slow down the machine = bad

Releasing a feature that many not even work properly = ugly

Complaining about not having features that were never promised when they purchased the machine = freetards

I don't care about it, Casey. My two year contract is up in July. I am either going to stick with the iPad with VOIP or upgrade my iPhone because it's starting to get old.Very minor issue. So you better find more bugs in the iPad to post about before it's fixed with next week's firmware update.

Good day sir
