This is really what the first Iphone should have been. It's not even competitive at all now. Come on, pay 2 or 3 times more for a few slight improvements?
Less power draining wifi, a 3mpx camera with autofocus (probably still worse than in my old 50$ k800i), 600mhz processor over a 412mhz one (65nm process technology resulting in a bit better battery life), more memory and a few gadgets. It's totally outdated.

Technically improved hardware leads to open gl 2.0 support meaning slightly better graphics in games. The original Iphone 3g only supports open gl 1.1 meaning that games for those 2 phones will not be compatible with each other.

And the next one is what the first one should have been and the next one and the next one. It's a market that's never satisfied and Apple makes money off it.

Yeah, so if you want to make money with selling iPhone games, you'd better be smart and offer more compatibility. Apple's job is only to make the App Store experience simple.

No, this phone is simply obsolete right now. Look at other mid to high end phones on the market right now, not to mention much superior phones that will be out soon. There is no point to buy this one unless you're a huge Apple fan and don't care about hardware specs and money. Saddly enough there will be definately people buying this because Apple products - no matter how shitty will always find a market for them.

I don't blame Apple for this. It's a good thing though it is a bit silly to give up on compatibility with Iphone 3g just to be compatible with new open gl. It basically means that older Iphones will not be able to play newer games and in best cases will have to download a separate version with worse graphics. Business-wise it's probably good since you have to buy a new iphone to play new games and for example kids won't care that it's technically almost the same. It plays new games and that's it.

Epic fail on Apple's part, even their fanboys are losing hope over this.

WOW WE GOT THIS BRAND NEW AMAZING FUNCTION called copy and paste YEAH!

The G1, and more importantly, the Android OS is shitting on Apple from every angle. I can do anything an iPhone can do with my G1 and MORE.

removable storage, removable battery, free tethering, shitloads of quality apps (Apple has more apps overall but the G1 apps are more consistent, there's more GREAT apps in the market than there is for iphone). Every single person I know with an iPhone that isn't an apple cocksucker has been literally bowled away by what Android can do, and the OS has only been out for 9 months.

Plus with Sony using Android as the basis for their new walkman, Dell, Acer and more releasing Android netbooks and even car entertainment systems getting built on Android, we are unstoppable.

Android is living proof that open source > locked down propriety software. If someone develops a better dialer, contacts app, camera, ANYTHING, are you free to get it and use it to replace the defaults on the iPhone?

Nope, that's what I thought. And before any Apple cocksucker comes in here with "well we don't need to because our default apps are so friggin awesome", it's called OPTIONS. More options = good. Less options = bad.

I'd put money on Android taking the vast majority of Apple and even Blackberry user base within 24 months.

As masta says:

There is no point to buy this one unless you're a huge Apple fan and don't care about hardware specs and money.

Apple has the highest consumer satisfaction rating amongst consumer computer manufactures according to American Customer Satisfaction Index. And there's more to it than status symbols and candy coating.

If I gambled, I would bet money that Apple's iPhones are research and development hidden underneath a very profitable business venture. Meaning that the tiny device and its OS is a primitive form of what's to come. And I am certain when Apple decides to release a beautiful tablet, others will follow, and no doubt some manufactures will build one like it that suits your needs better, and you will ultimately talk about how your tablet is better than mine.

this is simply not true. The android market is shitty and most apps are a complete joke. We agreed on this, remember? Don't make me pull up the thread with your contradiction. :)

Did Steve Jobs rape your mother?

More Options = confusion (ie Windows Vista Ultimate Limited Edition for Students and Moms who like to work from home and get down on the weekends and wear red shoes) What?

Do you know how McDonalds became a success? They narrowed their choices and offered a simple menu (plus its delicious).

The point is that I don't really like "Iphone-like" phones so that comparison was pointless.
And IF Apple releases something totally new and soon after Sony, Blackberry or whatever releases a much superior (not "one that suits your needs better") and cheaper or equally expensive product what is your excuse to buy Apple? I can't find any and that's what amazes me in Apple fanboys. While I understand some people prefering Apple computers since they might be dumb enough to have a disability to build their own reliable and cheaper PC I cannot understand this with phones since Iphones are not more reliable than their competition.

That new Iphone simply sucks. Even if I thought that the original Iphone hype was somehow justified I can't understand buying this new Iphone for twice as much money. It's just stupid.

yes but the new one is almost as "outdated" as the original one. If you can get it for 99$ I don't see any point in getting the new one.

masta, you'll never understand.

you probably don't understand why someone buys $200 shades and they're not even polarized.

but, naw, i'm sure you understand but you're just not the type of guy to ever appreciate that.

You only look at utility of a product but that's so 1950. It's not just about what the product does, but how it makes you feel, what it does for your status, what it does for your convenience....and that's cool if you don't look at those things. you know, whatever.

I'm just mad I didn't buy more apple stock when it was at $84....$140 now.

Okay so basically the fact that now people have an Iphone 3g... holy shit look at this ->s<- which can play games with 5% better graphics (which is still unbelievably shitty compared to let's say - psp) and costs 300$ makes people feel cool?
I don't know but to me it's pretty sad.

If it comes to the status thing I always thought that fe. people who had HTC phones were cooler because they bought actually better devices not caring about "the trend".
But I guess that not being affected by trends is what I consider cool so yeah.

Pull it up if you want, i stand by the statement in this thread. I'm sure that last statement was:

A) made prior to the release of Cupcake

and

B) made at least a month ago.

Do you look at the market every day? I try to, and every day there are shitloads more apps published and many of them are simply awesome.

Since I said that, I've got fully working NES and Sega Genesis emulators, a program that lets me trigger MIDI and soft synths over wi-fi, and (due to Cupcake) a whole heap of cool widgets, from sticky notes to a finance tracker to a weather widget that has a constantly updating WEBCAM thumbnail next to it from any location I choose. That is freaking awesome in my book. Even my sisters boyfriend who loves his iphone was impressed by me playing Streets of Rage 2 on my phone and the cool widgets. He's an NBA freak and there's a realtime ESPN NBA widget with both news and scores. He was impressed by that.

The market and level of quality apps has improved tenfold since developers got their hands on the 1.5 OS. Imagine where we'll be in 6-9 months when 2.0 hits.

and saltyboy, my mother has been dead for 17 years for the record. so evidently she was not raped by steve jobs. i doubt he can rape anyone when his cock is so far down your throat.

I actually agree with you that options can be confusing to some though, and your mcdonalds statement is definately accurate. But, that only applies to stupid people. Only morons get confused by having options. And only morons eat mcdonalds, so it does make sense :thumb:

I think the reason why Apple is so closed about their Apps is because if some dimwit releases a flawed app, Apple gets the heat from haters like Casey saying iPhones do not work.

I would rather have one internet browser under strict control of Apple than several loose ones.

masta, you're only talking about Pay As You Go handsets where you pay the full price for the phone...

i'm looking on getting mine on contract. so for the 16GB i'll pay around £80 for the handset and then, for 24 months pay £35 a month. So if you look at the cost, its spread over a two year period - and if you havent had an iPhone before, the new iPhone 3GS will be a good one to choose.

The only difference between me selecting the 16GB iPhone 3G and the 16GB iPhone 3GS is that i will be paying approximately £30 more as a one-off fee for the 16GB 3GS handset.

The extra battery life and improved performance is worth the extra money, in my opinion.
