Immortality

Does anybody believe in the possibility of Immortality or a much extended life?

What about a fountain of youth / tree of life type object, substance or place?

There are places on this planet with healing abilities (much like the Island on Lost). And Immortality is written about in most cultures, with each containing claims of its existence and examples of "Immortals."

Personally, I am fascinated by the concept; as I am about alternative medicines and such places.

And just because we cant google them does not mean they do not exist. My girlfriend has been to places in the Himalayas that are worshiped yet Ive found NO record of their existence online AT ALL -- but have seen photos of them and plan on visiting myself; but that really is a different topic and I am not saying they are anything to do with Immortality; Im just pointing out there is a lot of mystical and spiritual stuff out there that most people do not know about.

Anyway, what do you all think?

Perhaps it's theoretically possible if the cellular process of ageing can be slowed or halted permanently. Maybe someone with a greater understanding of biology can shed some light on it.

I generally don't exlude anything mythical or spiritual but if I had to bet money I'd say none of is real or it has a logical explanation. Immortality would suck.

When I think Immortality. The first thing I think about is that movie, "The Fountain". Great movie.

As for it's existence, I like to believe that there is. Kinda like Chronic, I don't usually exclude anything that may be mythical or spiritual

I've seen lots of Eastern Medicine, or nontraditional practices firsthand being born in and frequently visiting a third world island. I will say that the mind is a very powerful tool and regardless of if something really works or not...I believe if someone is able to use more than 20% of their brain power at will they could definitely believe that something is making them healthier or making them live longer...similar to how people can think they are sick and make themselves sick. I've even heard of a condition called a "false pregnancy" where women want to be pregnant so bad they trick themselves into believing that they are and have all of the actual symptoms.

So what i'm saying is.. with Eastern Medicine..it might very well be possible that something like this is true, or people might just believe in it so much that perhaps it'll work for them.

I'd love to be immortal...if anyone knows how I can become a vampire...I'd like to do that as well please.

Thanks.

Thats a myth, we use 100% of our brain. The "20%" people talk about is the parts that we notice we're using such as speech and movement. The other percentage is for stuff like controlling heart rate and sweating, the stuff we can't control.

The first emperor of China tried to become immortal, he died from mercury poisoning.

Where?

As far as immortality is concerned, I don't believe in a "fountain of youth" or any mystical, supernatural source of immortality. Immortality through science? Maybe. We're living longer and longer, so it's possible we'll get to a point where we can extend life exponentially. Of course, even if we don't die of old age we'll probably kill each other anyway.

I'm not sure how you thought I meant that... but I just meant people who are lazy and choose not to think past the average daily functions...like a lot of people are prone to do.

Well i thought you meant that "we only use 20% of our brainpower, if we knew how to use 100% of it we could probably live longer!".

There are mountains in Romania for example that slow the heart rate to rest and have healing properties they are still researching. But the heart rate thing is pretty obvious. People climb the mountain and as soon as they get close enough their heart rate goes to normal. You dont get tired there, you can exercise and your BPM stay steady. It is to do with an unexplained magnetic anomaly surrounding the mountain -- and something like that can be looked upon as both mystical and scientific.

Anyone watch all the future shows on the discovery channel(Im pretty much obsessed with that channel). They were sayin living to 200+ isnt too far out of reach. Farms growing organs and such.

Didnt that Chinese emperor bury himself in a pool of mercury or something like that. Or maybe he mapped out the world and mercury was the ocean, I think thats what it was, in his burial chamber or whatever.

I remember reading a while back that David Copperfield has reported something about finding a 'Fountain of youth' and he invested millions of dollars in it for researching purposes.. Anyone read that a while back?

I heard something about it. It's obviously bullshit, he does that kind of thing before every big trick he does.

Immortality? No, we'll never get there. Maybe we can live 50000 years in a millennium or two, when we find out how we can transfer our brains outside our bodies, but immortal? Nah.

Extended life? Of course. Immortal? Nah.

I sometimes wonder whether you believe half the shit you say, Rahim.
Why do you even need to wonder what I believe? What's it to you? I really do believe that, and maybe you don't, and just because you don't that doesn't mean you need to question why I believe something, or even what I believe....
