You know what hate about vegetarians the most?

They think they are better than meat eaters.

They think they are doing us a huge favor by "enlightening" us.

Now, if i wanted to push out a tree out of my ass with my strong Colon i'd turn vegetarian. Until then i'll stick to my juicy burgers.

Vegetarians the Nazi's of the eating world? Discuss.

It is, of course, quite obvious that humans are true omnivores, a lot like chimpansees. Apart from the blatant and un-ignorable fact that our bodies handle both meats and plants quite well, you can simply see how the remnants of peoples' living styles (I'm talking Inuit, Aboriginals, Masai, etc) of old clearly favour a balanced meat and vegetable diet (with the exception of the Inuit of course, since not much will grow on the polar cap. Instead, they survive on eating practically everything that's on a seal, sometimes even a whale and, of course, plenty of fish).

Another simple fact is that in meat and fish are a large amount of vitamins and minerals that are not or barely found in vegetables and fruits. Now, these days, anno 2007, it may be possible to put together a diet that compensates for such things, but about 10000 years back, you didn't have a choice. Humans did not have the know-how, the technology and most of all, not the time to go all Atkins on your ass and compile a huge encyclopedia on how to sustain yourself on nothing but greeneries. If you tried to be a moral knight back then, you'd last about 2 months before your ass was dead from malnourishment.

The moral question aside, even a mute, blind, amputee with Down syndrome can understand that humans are, by nature, omnivorous.

Why a reasonably smart dude like Militant is debating against this I cannot quite comprehend. Sometimes even the smart are swayed by rhetoric, wrong facts and a failure to see the big picture. Regardless, Militant, you should change your name back because Casey Rain sounds like a 3 dollar porno slut. Seriously, man.

And I want to highlight some parts from Jokerman's excellent two posts in here about the quality of food itself, any food, degenerating basically because of how our society works. "Back in the day" you stalked the deer and chucked your spear at it. Deer died and you had food. Now, back then, that deer was a perfectly healthy animal that you could carve up and almost eat raw. Nowadays, however, most meats produced in masses, bio-industry beef, pork and chicken have indeed, degenerated. But fruits also don't escape the worsening process with all the chemicals sprayed over them. And then, even apart from the way the food is "grown", by the time the banana is picked and the cow is slaughtered, an incredible amount of conservatives and chemicals are added to it. This whole process of tampering with the food is obviously detrimental to the overall quality.

That combined with the second bad factor in most people's diets, not knowing what they eat, largely contributes to an overall unhealthy diet, with people eating food that has been fucked with a gazillion times, grown in a poor manner, most likely cooked in a poor manner as well.

I am all for more responsible ways to grow our foods instead of this mass producing rapid churn out rates that we now have. The amount of "ready" meals is overwhelming. Less and less people even know how to boil a pan of potatoes, for Pete's sake. Everything is pre-packaged, pre-cut, pre-sorted, hell, even pre-digested sometimes.

I say no. In your day-to-day life, try to keep your diet varied and reasonably simple. Try not to stray too far away from the original food. Avoid the "tv dinners" that merely need 3 minute microwave action and cook your own meals.

It's not yet the solution, but it's a start.
