Ricky Gervais stars in GTA IV

Ricky Gervais in the UK version of The Office
Gervais in the UK Office. You may know him as the guy who means that Michael Scott is on US television screens or you might know him as the original, David Brent. Some people in the UK see him as a giant black hole sucking in the BBC's money, but there's no denying he is a very popular personality.

Rockstar Games knows all about his popularity, and he's landed himself a starring role in Grand Theft Auto IV. Speaking to free UK magazine Shortlist, Gervais says he performs three minute long, exclusive-to-the-game routines at Liberty City's comedy clubs, and he's very proud to be doing it. "Unfortunately they captured the whole horror, except I look slightly tougher. It's seriously a big deal, though", he says.

Grand Theft Auto IV is complete
Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 05:44 PM CDT | By Neil

Take Two Interactive just confirmed at the company's annual general meeting that Grand Theft Auto IV has gone gold. "Trucks are rolling next week and there will be a lot of them", the executive said, confirming that the game discs will be making their way to stores next week ahead of the game's release on April 29th.

One of my cousins friends is a manager at Game. I might have to give him a call next week and ask when they get it, if they do get it next week...

Rockstar Games Social Club Open And Stuff Explained

The unbelievable club is now open, and it’s time to party. Rockstar Social Club is now open for pre-registration and aims to extend the crazy worlds of Rockstar titles to come . One such confirmed title is already Midnight Club L.A., approaching soon.

The Rockstar Social Club will combine incredibly detailed, diverse and sometimes amusing leaderboards and player statistics, and combine them with performance-based competitions and awards for players of all skill levels.

Pre-registration for the Rockstar Social Club is free for anyone, and players will be able to link it to their Xbox Live Gamertag and/or PlayStation Network ID. Grand Theft Auto IV, comes with some crazy features :

* People who register for the Rockstar Games Social Club BEFORE April 29th 2008 will be rewarded by being automatically entered to win a special prize for true GTA fans: your portrait custom drawn by Rockstar Games’ in house art team in the signature art style of Grand Theft Auto IV’s illustrations.

* LCPD Police Blotter — A virtual map and tracker of single-player criminal activity logged in Liberty City from the aggregated data of millions of connected players - showing the most dangerous areas of town, most commonly used weapons and more.

* The Story Gang — This special single-player leaderboard recognizes players who complete Niko Bellic’s main story arc of Grand Theft Auto IV - The leaderboard ranks players according to the total amount of playing time it’s taken to complete the story, as well as a historical rank by who has completed it first. Members of this club will receive special online widgets and merit badges marking all of their in-game accomplishments.

* The 100% Club — Watch to see who will be the first to complete 100% of the game. The first ten people to be identified on the Social Club as reaching 100% will be sent an ultra-rare commemorative ‘key to the city’ to mark their accomplishment. In the future, the 100% Club will then carry a historical leaderboard showing rankings of who has completed 100% of a game in the shortest span of playing hours.

* The Hall of Fame — This area will dynamically recognize those singularly elite players who have reached the top of the hill on various statistical leaderboards, and will also contain a personal awards display of special in-game landmarks and successes in Social Club competitions.

* The Liberty City Marathon — A ranking of special physical milestones achieved in the game - from the amount of miles walked, driven, or swam - to the number of bullets fired and stunt-jumps jumped. There will be additional special marathon-based competitions in the future from this area as well.

Take out those martini’s boys. We’re here.

Lazlow reveals new GTA IV info

With the countdown to GTA IV approaching single digits, Grand Theft Auto radio celebrity Lazlow appeared on the Opie and Anthony Show this morning where he revealed small tidbits from the game (which was being played live on-air):

you can listen to a portion of the show on YouTube (Part 1, Part 2), but a full download of it should be available later today.

May 2008 edition of UK magazine XBOXWorld 360 has a 17 page preview with a few titbits of info. Some may be info you DON'T want to know yet so dont say i haven't warned you.

*First the controls

A - Run, Handbrake

B - Push, Cinematic Camera

X - Jump, Cycle Through Weapons

Y - Enter Car, Exit Car

Left Stick - Move, Steer

Right Stick - Camera, Aim

Click Left Stick - Crouch, Horn

Click Right Stick - Look Behind

LT - Lock On, Brake

RT - Shot/Attack, Accelerate

LB - Call Cab, Shoot

RB - Take Cover, Handbrake

D-Pad Up - Use Phone

D-Pad Left/Right - Cycle Weapons, Cycle Radio Stations

*Walking is handled by pressing and holding A, tapping A sends Niko into a sprint. Preview not sure how well this works at the moment, but reckons one could get used to it - bit weird from the sounds of it (why not just have analogue walking / running?)

*Niko grabs onto ledges automatically.

*Nikos martial arts are "courtesy" of former UFC heavyweight champ Bas Rutten, a scary Dutchman who is a qualified instructor and high level black belt in Thai Boxing, Pancrase hybrid wrestling, Kyokushin Karate and Tae Kwon Do.

*Smash head long into a wall and you run the risk of being propelled through the windscreen of the car.

*If you commit a crime in a car and "lose" the police they may set up roadblocks in a wide circumference around your position and then begin searching within that circumference - the previewer playing the game said switching cars, unseen, can get you out of the situation, as the police are looking for you in a particular car / on foot. If you drive sensibly you can even go past the police who are on the search for you.

*Cover system is fluid, blind firing is possible like GoW, and Niko rols between different adjacent forms of cover, and will stay locked to the wall until you move away.

*Day/Night cycles are 48 minutes (twice as long as previous GTA games, 1 RL min - 30 GTA mins).

*Cafes and Delis serve food to regain health, and is also used to conduct business and social engagements. Niko wont pack on pouns tho, like CJ.

*Police cars can be used to access their database computers to find phone numbers of anyone you get the name of ingame, even off the ingame internet (which includes mock versions of craigs list called "crap list"). So find a name (can also be found on flyers, scrawled on walls or signs), ring 911 to call a police car, hijack the car and hack the computer to find that persons number. Then give em a call to further the mission, get aid, arrange a date, stalk, whatver.

*Furthermore, you can snap any random person on your phones camera, upload them to the police car computer, and find their full profile and address.

*Any addresses you gleam from the police car computers wil be added to your GPS unit in any police, or upmarket car, and will give you full directions to the destination.

*Minigames include pool, darts, basketball, bowling, GoGo Space Monkey, golf driving range amongst "others".

*SA's RS Haul is back and will include missions centred around it, immigrant missions FTW!

*The Gruppe Sechs securicars are back also, but now theres a bigger emphasis on jacking them, nicking the money and destroying the evidence. Stealing them, and getting away from the aftermath is described as "tough" though.

*There is speculation within the preview (read SPECULATION) that there is strong hints that you will be able to upload your photos taken with the mobile, to other GTA IV players. (Why you would want to, i dont know)

*Stallion and Comet are definitely in, the Shtzu NRG500 has been replaced by the FASTER (!!!) NHG900RR.

*There will be a full indoor shopping centre in Alderney with clothes shops, food shops and more.

*The news tickers around Star Junction (Times Square) and elsewhere, will update all the time, including descriptions of perpetrators - including you.

*The Hot Coffee incident is referenced in the poster for Bean Machine Coffee signs everywhere - th eposition of the beans being no accident apparently.

*Flushing Meadows is featured in its entirety. As is a recreation of Astroland at Coney Island. Rides such as the Corpse Ride and Cyclone Rollercoaster (renamed The Screamer) can be tested (!!!), and the major tourist spots will play a part in some missions.

*There are a variety of games to play in the Videogeddon Arcade - keep an eye out for people and posters attacking violent video games.

*The LCPD badge worn by all officers has a silouhetted logo of 2 cops dragging a guy by his legs away.

*As well as the subway and taxis, you can also take a ride in the skytram.

*The incar shooting mechanics have finally been "nailed" according to the preview - takes some practice, but it really works now.

*You can listen to the radio in the multiplayer lobby. Once you get an updated MP3 phone, you can also carry on listening to the music on foot, ingame.

*You can blow up an entire petrol station with rocket launchers. (Was in a multiplayer segment, unknown if its SP too, or if it "respawns").

*Races are not limited by the car you start off in, can switch cars mid race.

*In a nod ot Mario Kart et al, you can pick up new weapons by driving over their respective floating icons - there is also a pure racing mode with no weapons.

*Your health is represented by a bar around the compass (as is the armour) and also by 8 blocks around the targetting reticule. Holding a triger down halfway will allow you to free aim. for the head etc.

*AI shooting is based on true line of sight schematics, if they cant see you, they really cant hit you. Being in cover also removes you from the radar - interesting for mp!

*While you can call a cab after a failed mission, you can also use the mobile to instantly restart the mission.

*Theres a massive 6 page section on the multiplayer alone, not with anything really that new, but they describe it, among other things, as sublime. They didnt expect anything, they were surprised by how complete a package it is.

*They did say that friendly fire, police prescence, traffic levels, ped numbers, respawn times, auto aim, weapon types, time of day, aiming reticule size, voice chat, gamertag display, duration of match, team numbers and format and radio station selection can be changed amongst other things.

*Killing gets you cash, BUT you need to collect the cash from the bodies - sniping campers beware!

*If you time it well enough, you can leap onto and cling to the undercarriage of a helicopter taking off by AI.

*There WONT be a recreation of Bronx Zoo in South Bohan, dogs are in the game though.

*You can get onto the top of most of the iconice towers, including Empire State, Chrysler, Metlife (Getalife), and Hearst Towers. At the top theres incredibly no pop up. At all. Apparently.

*City wide terrorist threat is the reason why the bridges will be cordoned off until you get beyond a certain mission point. This time its perfectly possibly to TRY and get across the bridge, but that large number of stars instantly appearing on your screen might mean you wont make it across, alive.

GRAND THEFT AUTO IV - Games Aktuell Review (News)

Games Aktuell Review
Posted by adamcs at 14:07. Category: General

German magazine Games Aktuell is the latest magazine to review Grand Theft Auto IV. Here is their verdict:

*
* Graphics: 9/10
The gigantic size of the city makes you forget the few graphical imperfections of the game.
* Sound: 10/10
Best GTA soundtrack ever, and probably the most compelling feature in the game.
* Controls: 8/10
Far from perfect but a big step from the previous GTA games.
* Multiplayer: 9/10
Great concept and innovative integration with the single-player mode.
* Gameplay: 10/10
We can't score it 11/10...
* Conclusion:
GTA4 is by far the best action game ever created.

GTA's Lazlow discusses IV on Radio

Lazlow Jones, the principal DJ for Grand Theft Auto since it introduced a radio, went into the studio with Opie & Anthony on Friday and Holy Toledo, the first segment of his talk is shot through with spoilers.

Not the kind of spoilers that ruin missions or stories. This is more like a hands-on discussion of the game's feel and environment. But if you want to go into this game wide-eyed, jaw-dropping at the depth and complexity of the world you'll be living in for the next three to six months, especially if you're employed, then do not follow the jump.

I think you can still listen to this and be blown away by the game, but if you're sensitive to this sort of thing, you have been warned.

Clip one is the juicy spoiler clip. I'm not even going to mark timestamps because there's really no nonspoiler material. You either want to listen to it or not. Here's some highlights:

• Apparently Anthony Cumia appears in this game as an Italian gangster, and even sings in it.

• Pisswasser — "cheap German beer brewed for export only" — is the game's leading beer brand. They play the radio ad for it at 1:40.

• There will be an "in-game Internet" that sounds astoundingly deep, with spoofs of blogs and news sites, including conservative and liberal themed news sources. They'll report directly on the mayhem you cause, and have annoying pop up banners for shows like "America's Next Top Hooker." There is also "Craplist," a Craigslist spoof that emulates CL's notorious personals — right down to hooking Niko up on in-game dates, Lazlow says.

Part II is a little more generic and doesn't really give much away, devoting the opening to hating on the Wii. They're playing it in the studio and calling out some of the gameplay details. Lazlow says there have been discussions of "light concepts" for a sequel but nothing solid yet. O&A, naturally, encourage a rural-based GTA so you can do unnatural acts with chickens.

Some of my favorite Lazlow comments (because they hit close to home).

• "It's OK when you're obsessed with 'The Wire,' but people think it's wrong when it's a video game." (so true.)

• "My problem is, I tend to drink when I play, and playing Call of Duty drunk does not go well, especially when some 15-year-old knifes you in the back."

I've linked the YouTube audio, as the O&A site apparently requires you to listen to the entire show via Audiobooks or something.
