For us losers that didn't make it to the World Cup, we have the Euros coming up. :)

Tomorrow is the draw.

The most interesting thing for us is, with luck on our side (or lack of) ... we might be stuck in a group with Serbia, Bosnia, Slovenia and Montenegro ... Footy riots ftw.

I know this thread is a bit early, but I want to get a head start on Thuggy who always posts draws before I do.

So... UEFA ruled that Russia and Georgia cannot be in the same group. Same with Armenia and Azerbaijan.

It's not a bad idea, but why then let the ex-Yugo teams in the same group lol... We're far more dangerous.

I didn't know that Ogi. Why would they let us kill each other. Maybe Georgia and Russia I understand, but imagine another Bosnia / Serbia ... or Croatia / Serbia ... We haven't had them in a group since Euro 2000, when that asshole grabbed Jarni's penis

I'd laugh if Ireland got France. Imagine they pull the same shit again. Bobby will fly to Paris and sucker punch the French FA's President just out of principle. :D

I think Ireland have little chance of making Euro 2012 no matter what group we get if Keane doesnt get back to his best. We have Doyle who is a good player but he wont score as many goals. then after that we have very little.

I wouldn't count you guys out. You may end up in a fairly easy group with some luck. I never count out the Irish personally.

These are the pots

If you guys get Russia / Sweden / Latvia / Liechtenstein / San Marino

You're in the clear :)

It's top team and 2 best runner ups that get an automatic spot right? The rest head into a playoff, I believe.

Qualifying starts in September right? So there's still time for Keane to get out of his slump.

As for Slovenia, not sure ... they apparently went down 2 spots in the rankings for Feb. lol.

^^i dont think World Cup qualification as any bearing on Euro qualification but Slovenia did make Euro 2000. Ireland have made the Euros only once. back in 88.

Apparently World Cup qualification does have bearing on the pots for the Euros.

It's under the new coefficient system put in place in 2008.

On 20 May 2008, UEFA announced the change of the coefficient ranking system. Under the new system, teams gain ranking points for each match played in the most recently completed five qualifying tournaments or finals of the World Cup or European Championships.

1) 10,000 points are awarded for each match played,
2) for an outcome of each match an additional 30,000 for winning, 20,000 for winning after a penalty shoot out, and 10,000 for a draw (including forcing, but failing to win, a penalty shoot-out),
3) the finals tournament, or play-offs to determine qualification, are granted extra points, ranging from 6,000 to 38,000,
4) 501 points are earned for a goal scored , and 500 lost for each goal conceded,
5) points are divided by the number of games played,
6) more recent tournaments have double the weighting of the one most distant in time,
7) special arrangements are in place for hosts of competitions, who have therefore not participated in the qualifying tournament.
Then the pots are made from whatever the rankings are after a qualification.

Euro 2016 will have 24 teams.

The format of the final tournament will consist of six groups of four teams, followed by a round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The top two from each group would qualify in addition to the four best third-ranked sides, the same system as was applied in the World Cups from 1986 to 1994. This format would generate a total of 51 games, compared with 31 now, to be played over a period of 29 to 31 days depending on the match schedule. This historic decision gives middle-ranked countries a much greater chance to qualify for the finals. The traditional qualifying structure, with groups of six and five teams, will remain in place.
As to date France, Italy and Turkey have submitted a bid to host it. I like the idea of Turkey getting it. I'm sure they'll be more countries looking into it by March. I heard Croatia/Bosnia joint bid is looking into it. That would be awesome if we get our shit together. lol

A and G are though groups....

I'm confident of Bosnia's chances... We lost only once to France and that was back in 2006. 2-1 in the 94th minute. I was there :(.

Romania are about as good as Turkey and we played well against the Turks.

I'm mostly scared of Albania and White Russia.
