One of your core files is corrupt. See if you can log in to safe mode, if so start saving your data because the only way I see it is to reformat the drive unless if you have windows xp in which you can "system restore." It is in the accesories folder.

It's trying to boot up becuase the computer cannot recognize the hard drive anymore so it cannot boot from the hard drive. I havent done it in years and I don't know if it can work with Windows XP but its asking you to make a boot disk for the computer to boot up.
Go here http://www.bootdisk.com/ and download your operating system. I hope this works...

I googled your problem and it seems that this method of a bootdisk from the website works

I found a simple solution today (Sept.5, 2002). I downloaded from bootdisk.com a software called XP Boot. It has a newer version of fdisk on it. After getting the error message, I ran fdisk /mbr and killed the master boot record. I then restarted the machine and it booted right up. Hope this works.

And Here's Another Way For You To Make Bootable CD's
To Create A Bootable CD, You Need A CD-Burner, Roxio Easy CD Creator, A Blank CD-R Disk And The Bootable Source Media. (The source can be a floppy diskette, a hard drive or a previously created image file of any of these. Use "Help" if confused at step four below.)

After You Have Gathered Everything Together:

1. Put the blank CD in your drive
2. Start Easy CD Creator
3. Select "File", "New CD Project", "Bootable CD"
4. Select the bootable CD type
5. Then Select "OK"

Here's another suggestion. You need your installation cd for it. Tell me if this works:
Ok, you need to boot from the XP Pro CD, and when it gets to the part that asks is you want to install or what, choose R (Recovery Console). It'll then boot into a black screen with white text, ask what partition you want to boot to (if you only have one windows install it'll be number 1, then :p ), and ask for the admin password.

Once you are at the recovery console prompt, type fixboot, and it'll ask if you really wanna do this?, say Y for yes, then once it's finished, type exit to reboot.

If that doesn't fix it, we need to look at restoring the MBR, but that's more problematic

Use your Windows XP Professional cd not the bootdisk. Then follow the directions on my previous post.

The cd should have come with your cpu unless you have a pirated version installed. See if you can borrow a legitimate copy from your friends and do the recover mode that I specified. In terms of the bootdisk Im not that very knowledgable with it read the file instructions from bootdisk.com
