Calif. Police Kill Suspected Gangster, 13

Sun Feb 6, 4:30 PM ET U.S. National - AP

LOS ANGELES - A 13-year-old suspected gang member driving a stolen Toyota was killed by police early Sunday after a pre-dawn chase in which he rammed an LAPD (news - web sites) patrol car, authorities said.

The vehicle was moving erratically and police began their pursuit after suspecting the driver was drunk, said LAPD spokeswoman Kristi Sandoval.

The driver stopped and a passenger, described as another suspected gang member, fled on foot.

The driver ignored commands from police, then shifted the 1992 red Toyota into reverse and rammed a black-and-white cruiser, prompting police to open fire, Sandoval said.

She could not say how many officers opened fire, or how many shots were fired.

The driver died at the scene. Sandoval did not know how many times the youth was hit by bullets, or where.

The passenger, a 14-year-old boy, was arrested after a foot chase, Sandoval said.

-----------------------------------------------------

And PLEASE, him ramming his car into the cruiser DOES IN NO WAY JUSTIFY THE COLD BLOODED MURDER OF A 13 YEAR OLD.

actually, it does justify it. He was a drunk 13 year old who stole a car. What if police let him keep driving away? He could've hit another car full of innocent people, he wasn't afraid of hitting and possibly killing a cop, what makes you think he wont kill anyone else?

Keyword "possibly"

So instead of apprehending the THIRTEEN year old and bringing him to jail, they KILL him to save other lives that could of "possibly" been taken.

So anybody driving a stolen car or driving drunk deserves to die

Yeah, as much as it looks bad now, at the time, the cops had the right to open fire.
the cops had the right to open fire?!?!? if the cops cant stop a THIRTEEN year old and piss their pants after he rams a cruiser ONCE , they SHOULDNT be cops in the first place

Oh well hes thirteen, yet he was old enough to get drunk and steal a car and have a car chase with the cops. He knew what he was getting into. And that possibility shit, ANYTHING can happen, he could've POSSIBLY not stolen a car, could've POSSIBLY not gotten drunk, POSSIBLY not have a car chase.

Well seeing as you wish to refuse them their right to use their guns that would be '12 unarmed, trained police officers'.

The police have the right to use their weapons, however this was not the situation, a 92' Toyota vs a fuckin 8 cylinder police cruiser is not a life threatning situation, especially when the car is being controlled by a 13 year old

The police have the right to use their weapons, however they do not have the right to be judge, jury and excecutioner

So tell me, if you were one the cops in this situation, what would you have done?

The police were justified in shooting at him for leading them on a 3.5 mile chase that could have led to any number of innocent bystanders being killed. They didn't shoot at him for backing up because they feared for their lives; they shot at him for backing up because that told them he had no intention of stopping at that point and was ready to take off and endanger more people's lives. If he had hit your mother with that car, you would have been asking why they hadn't shot him sooner.

And they didn't know his age.

In California the police have the right to use their cruiser as a weapon, they could of easily stopped the 92 Toyota with their brand new shiny 8 cylinder cruisers and apprehended the kid

i dont wanna turn this into a racial thing, but why when a drunk or drugged up 40 year old white man walks down the street busting off shots in the air from his sawed off, they apprehend and tackle the dude, or when a crazy woman wielding a knife , or when a post office worker shoots up a place , they simply tackle the person

but a 13 year old black kid gets riddled with bullets

this was a case of excessive force and him ramming a 92 toyota doesnt justify his murder

I couldn't agree more.

Why didn't they just flash their lights, get him to pull over and calmly escort him to jail?

Please, of course this was justified. If he'd ploughed into one of your family members, you'd be complaining about how the 'pigs' did nothing to stop him.

Somehow I can't see them tackling a vehicle....
