Let's just say i wanted to get the Galaxy S... (I just found out today that T-Mobile UK are selling the phone).

Would it be better to stick with T-Mobile and get the phone for free on £35/month (24 month contract)

OR

Change over and go to Vodafone (free phone, £35/month, also 24 month contract)

Based on this:

Samsung Galaxy S on Vodafone - 16GB model
Samsung Galaxy S on T-Mobile - 8GB model

Anyone able to compare what Vodafone's service is like compared with T-Mobile's? T-Mobile has been pretty good for me, but the 3G connection tends to get sluggish at times.

Im thinking that maybe i could stay with T-Mobile to build up a customer loyalty bonus, hope they give me one when i upgrade - and hopefully on the pro... fingers crossed they announce it.

T-Mobile offers "Samsung Vibrant" which is a slightly modified Galaxy S (with a different cover), no?
At least GSMArena claims that it's a T-Mobile exclusive 16gig version of Galaxy S:
Samsung Vibrant - Full phone specifications
imo it doesn't look as cool as the original Galaxy but technically it's very similar and maybe it's cheaper there on T-Mobile?

thats t-mobile us isnt it? i meant t-mobile uk for me. over here they call it the samsung galaxy s, not the vibrrant. so i guess that only applies to t-mobile us.

on the other hand, some very bad news:

Motorola bootloader could brick ROM-tampered phones | Android Community

When we wrote yesterday about Motorola’s confirmation that the DROID X, DROID 2 and – most likely – all future Android handsets from the company would come with a locked bootloader and thus make hacking pretty difficult, we didn’t realise quite how difficult it would actually be. According to MyDroidWorld, Motorola’s locking system uses a so-called eFuse chip that verifies the handset’s firmware (i.e. the ROM), the kernel and the bootloader version. If it detects that a non-Motorola ROM has been loaded, then that’s when the problem starts.

If any of those three elements have been modified unofficially, the eFuse “blows” and the handset is bricked to the user. Now, the eFuse can be reset but that can apparently only be done with specialist hardware that Motorola themselves had; in other words, you’ll have to test quite how happy the company is with you loading third-party ROMs and then trying to claim under their warranty. Considering yesterday’s information, we’re guessing Not Happy At All is the answer.

You guys might be getting the Desire.
No, Hero meaning GSM HTC Hero, and CDMA HTC Hero on Sprint. But if there's root for Eris now I'm sure someone will make a port of CM6, it would probably be pretty easy since the internals are more or less identical to the Hero.
Yeah, well, fuck the Eris. On AF, there are reports of people on their third replacement phone from VZW because of the silent call bugs, lag, trackball issues, etc. VZW was offering them the option of switching to a new phone.

A few people have been offered this as a free option and some have been offered a new phone at a two year price. They were offered either the LG Ally or the Droid. Of course my eyes lit up at the possibility of having the fastest phone ever with an OCd Droid, but I'm gonna need to go through customer service reps or technicians over the phone. I'm trying to figure out the safe way to go about this so that I don't immediately make my intentions known that I want to exchange the phone for a Droid. I just want to get away from this phone so bad with these damn bugs.

Also, you mentioned the Desire coming to Rogers..... While I'm sure it's a great phone, I learned my lesson from getting a phone months after it was released elsewhere. I would just wait it out for the next iteration or just a new Android phone period. Not worth being behind the 8ball to begin with.

And why is the US the only place using CDMA phones?

htc desire hd (aka htc ace) specs tipped for october launch

last we heard of the htc ace, it was featuring on a leaked uk carrier roadmap and tipped for a release in october 2010. Now there are some specs pieced together by superetrader, and while we recommend liberal pinches of salt there’s still plenty to get excited about. According to the retailer, the htc ace will launch as the htc desire hd, and have a 4.3-inch wvga touchscreen, 8-megapixel camera, 1ghz qualcomm processor and android 2.2.

They’ve also tipped 720p hd video recording, xvid playback and srs surround sound support, together with automatic face tracking for the camera, flash 10 and a relatively low 4gb of internal storage. No word on what it might look like physically, aside from having a “unibody aluminium design” which sounds a lot like what htc has done with the legend (and, for that matter, what we saw in the htc 1 concept earlier this week). Fitting successor to the htc desire? You tell us.

4.3 inch wvga touch screen
8 mega pixel camera
1 ghz qualcomm processor
android 2.2 os
hd 720p video capture
xvid video playback
srs surround sound
automatic face tracking
adobe flash 10 support
4gb internal memory (up to 32gb)
e-book reader feature
uni-body aluminium design

Given the latest update (ie Sandeep's post underneath yours), could well be the Desire HD coming to Rogers. Or the original Desire with a spec increase. Have to wait and see. Anyway, it seems fairly commonplace for Canada to get Androids 2-3 months after everyone else. Desire hasn't been out that long anyway (May). I got my G1 something like 3 months after it was first released. I wouldn't leave it longer than that though.

But yeah, if you can get a Droid, then cool.

Desire will going to Telus. As for the Desire HD going to Rogers, I wouldn't complain :D ... haven't heard any news from my sources here though.

We always get Androids a few months later here, it sucks, but sadly, it is what it is. Only phones we tend to get first and exclusives are Blackberries and that's because RIM is Canadian. So yeah...

I have decided Blackdroid rules for apps. Any arguments?
I don't believe they've uploaded anything since May, aside from that, cool.

I rarely come across an app that costs money that I really want/need, and I have over 100 apps. It's happened just a handful of times.

Since I have root, I can run a command in terminal that copies the apk file to the sdcard. So I bought the apps, copied them to the SD, and then did a refund from the Android Market lol (you can return and get a refund on any app within 24 hours of purchasing it).

There's a couple other forums that I used to visit too, but I haven't checked them in a few months so I don't know if they're still active. I have them bookmarked somewhere. There were some really awesome ones that got shut down.

Yup same here. And if I encounter something I just google it (oh the irony).

Pittsey, I posted a link a few pages back to App Deck or something. Blackdroid is still the best, but App Deck, according to some other forums, was very good before it was shut down. Now it's back up again, as of a few days ago, and it already has about forty pages of new stuff. So...
