4G LTE Motorola Spyder (Droid RAZR) crawls out of the dark corner carrying a qHD Super AMOLED display and more [updated]

Just when you finally think you may have decided which device is right for you, we throw another one into the mix. The guys over at This is my Next have been sent some images of an unannounced Motorola device that is apparently named the Motorola Spyder. What makes this device any different than any of the others you are probably wondering, so let's take a look at the specs.

The Motorola Spyder is said to have a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, this would be the first time we have ever seen this, and will be powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor. In addition it will rock an 8MP camera on the back, a "HD" front facing camera, and 1GB of RAM.

Update - They have received another tip from a trusted source who has had hands-on time with the device and the About screen of the device reveals it to be the Droid RAZR. With the "Droid" branding that pretty much
leaves us knowing that it will be heading Verizon's way, but the question now is when?
Sexy as fuck. And bringing back the RAZR brand is a power move. Supposedly the chassis is made of Kevlar! And I really dig the brushed aluminium of the Motorola stamp.

Having a screen that's both qHD resolution AND Super AMOLED display technology is pretty amazing too.

Mark my words, this will be a big seller. iPhone 5 is gonna be crushed between this and the Nexus Prime.

I still see 100's of the "Get an Iphone 5", "wait for the iphone 5" posts on facebook. They don't even know the specs or any details.... Sheeple.

I know I want Android OS, but other than that I am open to the handset. Dependent on specs. I don't say get the Nexus Prime. Because even though we have a good idea it will be good, I don't want to make a judgement before I have seen it.

I will definitely be checking out the screen on the Droid RAZR.

pittsey is the truth. that is the way to do things, because so many things look good on paper but using the device is completely different.

generally, i would shortlist devices i want and would probably buy - but i;d always check reviews and check it out for myself (if i can). most of the "get an iphone 5" comments come with the notion that iphone 5 will be the 'latest and greatest' because its a no brainer that it'll be better than the iphone 4.

most of those people forget that the reason the iphone seems so popular is because its one device, as opposed to the lineup of entry-level, mid, upper-mid and high spec phones from other manufacturers. although blackberry has different devices, there is one sole manufacturer (blackberry) that uses RIM in mass.

RIM is the manufacturer, Blackberry is the brand/OS.

but yeah. You gotta wait for the specs to make a decision obviously but I would already recommend the Nexus Prime simply because it's gonna be the first device to ship with ICS and be an upgraded GS2. Hell I'd recommend it even if the specs were exactly the same as the GS2 cos this phone rocks.

Especially with Ice Cream Sandwich. And if the OHA partners follow through with the plan announced at IO for devices to get upgraded quickly, we might see ICS updates on a lot of these killer devices in a very short space of time too. It's possible they might even have given ICS to the manufacturers already to start working on their updates, and that they release the Nexus Prime with ICS and then all these other phones get it within a month of that. That would be pretty sweet.

In fact, I'm not sure anyone knows yet what Cyanogen is doing at Samsung since they hired him. Possible that they hired him to quickly build their updates for the rest of their line so they can push 'em quickly after Nexus Prime drops?

They just announced 10 million Galaxy S2s sold to date... and those stats are before the US launch. I predict 20-25 mill by Xmas. The new White version just came out here and is flying off shelves, one of my cousins just got one today. That makes 3 people in my close family with SGS2's now. A lot of people in my family have had Android devices for a while, 2 other ones have HTC Desires as that was a huge selling device, but there's never been an instance of 3 of us having the same phone before.

What is the best Android blog out there? Or, your favorite that you peruse?

I've recently discovered the wonder of Pulse (I knew about it before, but I was sticking with Reader) and now I'm hooked. I want a good Android blog to add to my list.

I think I like HTC Amaze, which is just the sensation xe, more than the gsII. Too bad the back of it is ugly as fuck, I wish the xe look would come to the states

Ice Cream Sandwich gets a two-minute tour, courtesy of a lucky eBay shopper (video)

The one Android update to rule them all -- better known as Ice Cream Sandwich -- is penciled in for an official launch sometime in the next two months, so it's only natural for some shots to leak out. We just weren't expecting a two-minute video showing off a few of the new features. As the story goes, a lucky gent ordered a Samsung Nexus S on eBay and, upon its arrival, noticed that his new prized possession looked a little... different. Hopping over to the About screen, he was shocked to discover that the device was running ICS. The firmware appears to be operating on the same baseband as the screenshots leaked a few weeks ago, but it's running on an updated build (IRK48) and kernel (3.0.1).

We can see plenty of influence from both Gingerbread and Honeycomb here, as well as four shortcuts on the bottom (a definite bump from the two found on vanilla 2.3). There's a new Google Apps icon which opens up a tray containing a number of featured services put out by the search giant, and long-pressing the home button brings up a vertical Honeycomb-style multitasking menu. The notification bar, camera UI and other menus also have a much different look. Granted, all of this could just be a custom ROM built to emulate the latest Google dessert, so we can't be a full hundred percent certain that it's authentic. If it's not, at least we can give credit for it being incredibly elaborate. Enjoy the video and additional screenshot below.

[Thanks, anonymous]

Looks and seems cool but it might be fake. Apparently some folks already made a "clone" ROM of ICS based on the previous leaked screenshots and ripping bits out of the honeycomb SD.

Not long to wait before we get some real info. I'm more interested in new features than UI changes though.
