You do what you said. You don't pay the money for the demo, and you listen to those other albums instead. The people who are willing to spend that amount of money do so, and get what they want. In the end, they get new tracks, but you don't.

Some fuck forms a buying group, buys the album, and then leaks it, despite Dante having warned the scene three times before that leaking is unacceptable, and having made it utterly clear that this is the scene's last chance. Everyone gets that one album, the people who are willing to spend $150 bucks don't get shit after that, and neither do you.
Basically, in both scenarios you end up at the same place. You're indefinitely cut off until some big leak takes place years up ahead maybe. The only difference is, the way people have gone about it, they have ruined it for all the good people, good working citizen of various societies who earn money and are willing to compensate the people who are bringing the new material. They are not milking Pac for money. They are not offenders of any of the things most Pac fans who dislike Dante accuses him of as a guise for their egoism and cheapness, or lack of interest simply. They are simply Tupac fans, like you, wanting to hear original music. But you don't even know Dante. All those things you say about him are assumptions you made. First of all, Dante never downright laughed at someone for not having the 2Pac shit he has. Maybe if someone had been harassing him for several months on messengers and pissed him off to the point where he actually wanted to have the person murdered, he would tell him to blow his Tupac-rares-stuffed cock. If you can't appreciate that you're an idiot. If you obtained a brand new exclusive car you would flaunt no doubt. On the contrary to what most people who weren't worthy in Dante's eyes to purchase the projects seem to think (sweet irony), i actually think Dante has done a very good job at not being a flaunting faggot.
You have not gotten 10-50 instant messages a day over the course of several years like back when Dante was WAY tighter with information, and when leaking a song was less likely than him killing his own mother. You have not had your father's picture posted up all over the internet, along with personal information like phone numbers. You have not had the RIAA on your tail for taking part in giving us songs that we now, years later, consider some of our favorite Tupac songs. You have not had people send fake pictures to Amaru Entertainment to try and frame you for something you never did. Dante has accounted for all these things in the past.
Moreso, you never paid a single dime for an unreleased song in your life. Do you understand the value of five thousand dollars? Look at your monthly pay cheque. Look at the prices in your nearest supermarket. Do you realize how much five grand really is? You have never paid that amount for a single Tupac song, while Dante has done so several times over.
In a lot of places in the world, black people don't like white people for the simple fact that they are white. Why? Because a lot of black people have been undermined by white people for as long as they can remember. This is not something Dante has told me personally, but considering the amount of songs he put out on RM1-3, the sessions and the thug life demo, as well as all the footage that wasn't quite cheap either, i can't help but think the man must have spent a hundred grand on Pac shit that we can't get. If you say that you can't appreciate that someone would want to try and recoup those costs when they give out what they paid the money for, you're, as you so nicely put it, a liar. Let's not neglect the fact that you can't just call up one of Tupac's producers and ask him if you can buy a song. In many cases we are talking about developing a friendship over years.

but you seem to keep forgetting one fact. you point out that Dante is just trying to recoup the money he spent on getting these songs, but if you charge more less people are going to be willing to buy. if he was really interested in making back his money he would have sold it for less and had more buyers, a lot more. more buyers=more money, simple business math there. so i think there was more to it than just trying to recoup his money. personally i think he put such a high price tag on it because he figured he could sell a few copies but still have something rare to hang onto, since not many people would have it (if it doesn't leak, which it always does eventually). either that or he's incredibly stupid and can't figure out simple economics, and i don't think he's that stupid.
plus, it's not like he's giving us the true gold shit, the Pac songs he's sold so far have not been Pac's best songs. the Thug Life demo for example. how many people think the demo was actually better than the album? most of the half decent stuff from the demo was used to make better shit anyway (High Till I Die comes to mind, Pac's solo version murders the demo version). overall it is inferior to the actual Thug Life album. i think he's basically selling the songs he doesn't care about, the ones he doesn't like much and trying to capitalize on the fact that they are rare. if he really wanted to make some money he should have sold some of the DR unreleased/unleaked shit we know he has, or even the other Thug Life shit we know about (Bury Me A G solo in good q, the true Runnin' OG, etc), the shit we've all really been waiting to hear. instead he offers these inferior songs that, honestly, i listened to a couple times and have no real desire to listen to them again. the only true value these songs have is the "rare factor" that collectors would be interested in (not a true collector, a real collector wouldn't give a fuck about a copy of the demo tape on a CD, they'd want the real tape) but speaking as a fan, if i had paid $150 for this album i would not have been satisfied.
but my biggest problem with how he handled all this was how he blamed it on the leakers. as i've said many times in this thread, the shit is going to leak no matter what. everyone knows that, which is why it's such a risk to purchase these projects in the first place. he certainly knew it was inevitable, hence why he tried to bribe people into not leaking by offering them more shit. but he had to know it would leak eventually, shit always does. so for him to blame the leakers and say they're the reason he's not doing any more projects is bullshit. he knew it would happen as well as everyone else. and when it comes right down to it, he doesn't legally own the rights to the shit he's selling, so technically he's the one stealing money out of other people's pockets since he's selling stolen merchandise. so i can't have any sympathy for a thief who gets robbed.

all talk about dante aside, because i feel like i have been typing up a fucking analysis of his persona, there is another side to this discussion that i think is more important. when dante doesn't give people things for free that he doesn't have legal rights to release, and chooses to be a nice guy and sell them on instead of sitting on them, period, some people feel empowered with the right to judge. they take action into their own hands and ruin things for other, loyal, nice tupac fans that never did shit to deserve it. basically, it's like saying that because dante is a fag, i'm gonna be a fag too. if anything, people's moral compasses should tell them that's not right at all, even if Dante was satan himself.
well that's an opinion. pac raps with more passion on fake ass bitches, not to mention it's the only version of the song we have with the original sample and pac rapping. it is thus far my favorite version of that song and the one i listen to. the one on r u still down, people say it's almost og but it's so far from it. high till i die to me was dope. reminded me of pete rock and c.l. smooth's they reminisce over you with the brass. i thought it was hot as fuck. the song thug life has historical value in that it's the first song tupac and big syke worked on together, the first song that tupac and johnny j worked on together, and the first thug life song ever recorded. niggaz in the pen is dope to me too. but hey, like i said, they are all opinions. you're not entirely right though. he put out a few goodies. do you want to know something funny though? learning how to crawl before walking is a very basic principle of life. apply it to the quality of the material being put out and you see. if dante had put the best shit out first and it leaked, well that would suck. he started out slowly. the plan was DEFINATELY to release more high quality shit in the future. dat rip shit my man. when the sessions leaked, there never was supposed to be another project. out of kindness, dante put out one more. thug life demo. after having had four projects leak, he didn't have much faith in the community and gave us a lil release to see how things went. if it hadn't leaked and the 90 days had passed and people had gotten their two bonus tracks, there would have been another project. and another. and the quality would rise with each one. these are not assumptions btw.
you are misunderstanding the buying process i think. you say "the leakers" like they are some group of unknown people who accidentally got their hands on the album. for each project, every buyer was reviewed thoroughly. some people who were new to the scene were given a chance. Dante and Litt communicated with every buyer through various online mediums, and the whole thing was more like a bunch of agreements between two people than a product being up for grabs that anyone can get. That's why he made such a big deal out of it. The people who bought it were entrusted with something they were not supposed to have in the first place. Breaking an agreement you have with a person shows lack of integrity, and a person who lacks respect for people should get some before he starts asking for shit from ANYONE.
maybe how dante handled it wasn't entirely correct. i understand dante's hatred for the scene very well though like i said and i support him. if he does something i don't like, i'll support it so long as i feel it's justifiable. i have yet to find something that's not about dante. and i've known him for a few years and accidentally leaked a couple of smaller things that came from his direction. despite all of this, he still treats me fairly and allowed me to purchase all the projects. he even let me delay the payment until after the pre-order deadline, after which no bonuses were supposed to be included. he has no reason to trust me really, but he does. i did what a BUNCH of other people have done to him, but he treated me fairly. i never turned on him and started calling him a faggot because i couldn't have my way. i really am a humble person in real life. but Dante still doesn't seem to hate me, so i must have done something right. Why couldn't all those other little cry babies do that instead lol?
but you see, some of these things you listed are the reasons that a lot of people leak this stuff. there are a lot of Pac fans out there that despise bootleggers in all forms and don't want to see them profit. the fact that Dante is trying to sell something he doesn't own and make money off a dead man really rubs people the wrong way. and yes, there are some dumbasses out there who expect Dante to give away all his shit for free, but i'm not one of them. and i'm not really mad at Dante, he spent heaps of money on the stuff he has and he's free to do with it as he chooses. what bothers me is the way he acted when the shit leaked like he knew it would. he could take as many precautions as possible and it won't matter because THESE THINGS ALWAYS LEAK!!!!! as you even pointed out, it happened 4 times to him. did he really think this time would be any different?
again, some people don't care about the people who purchase these projects, they just want to make sure the dude selling it doesn't make the money he was hoping to make. to be honest, everyone who purchased this project should have known it was going to leak just like every other project, so they really have no one to blame but themselves when it comes down to it. if you really thought this wouldn't leak, you haven't been paying attention, and that's your fault for making such a risky purchase in the first place, not the fault of people who leaked it.
you're right, it is only my opinion, but i would find it hard to believe that anyone but the most diehard Pac fans can really appreciate this demo and be satisfied with the purchase. its not terrible, not even close, but it's also not anywhere near as good as the album itself was. another bone i have to pick with him was the way he oversold some of these songs. in his description of the demo tape he talks about the OG of Definition Of A Thug Nigga as though its a whole new song that sounds way different than the OG, when in fact the only real difference between the released version and the OG is one sample that hardly changes the entire song. and to be honest, i prefer the RUSD version of fake ass bitches because it has more on it with Pac talking in between verses and at the end. the version on the demo tape sounded unfinished, and overall there isn't much difference from the released version. there is some nice shit on the tape, but not much of anything we hadn't already heard in one form or another.
see to me, the fact that he was picking and choosing who to sell to seems like a bitch move, and shows me there was more to this than just him recouping his money. if that was all he really cared about, then selling it to more people=more money. and once again, if the price was lower, more people would have bought, and the inevitable leak would barely be a blip on the radar cuz he would have made his money back. again, he has the right to sell to whoever he wants to, but to actually deny people the right to purchase a project like this certainly wouldn't have helped him in the future with more projects. people would start to get the idea that he's only interested in selling to his "friends" and the number of orders would have kept dropping off, until no one would want to buy from him because he might not want to sell to him. bad business practices all around. and it's not like his "screening process" actually worked anyway cuz it still leaked. that's what really got to me about this was that rather than acknowledge his own mistakes in how he handled this, he blames it on everyone else, when if he had just used more common sense there never would have been a problem in the first place. damn this was a long ass post, Preacherman i think you're starting to rub off on me lol
again, some people don't care about the people who purchase these projects, they just want to make sure the dude selling it doesn't make the money he was hoping to make. to be honest, everyone who purchased this project should have known it was going to leak just like every other project, so they really have no one to blame but themselves when it comes down to it. if you really thought this wouldn't leak, you haven't been paying attention, and that's your fault for making such a risky purchase in the first place, not the fault of people who leaked it.
you're right, it is only my opinion, but i would find it hard to believe that anyone but the most diehard Pac fans can really appreciate this demo and be satisfied with the purchase. its not terrible, not even close, but it's also not anywhere near as good as the album itself was. another bone i have to pick with him was the way he oversold some of these songs. in his description of the demo tape he talks about the OG of Definition Of A Thug Nigga as though its a whole new song that sounds way different than the OG, when in fact the only real difference between the released version and the OG is one sample that hardly changes the entire song. and to be honest, i prefer the RUSD version of fake ass bitches because it has more on it with Pac talking in between verses and at the end. the version on the demo tape sounded unfinished, and overall there isn't much difference from the released version. there is some nice shit on the tape, but not much of anything we hadn't already heard in one form or another.

like you said, we just sit on opposite sides of the fence on this issue. and it should be known that although i hold no personal grudge against him, it's pretty obvious i don't have a lot of love for Dante and never have (although we have had our cool moments, like when he helped hook me up with that King T album, and he even repped me once:woah: ) so most times i don't agree with the things he says or does. although i'm curious as to why so many people say "well if it wasn't for dante we wouldn't have half the shit we have now." huh? as far as i know Dante has never leaked anything that he didn't get paid for so how is it that he's responsible for most of the shit that has leaked over the years?oh, and i like you too Preachy

well the stuff i'm talking about is the stuff that leaked, not sold on mixtapes or anything like Son Rize. i'm talking about the original shit, the stuff we all had in the early 2000's and on. people say he's responsible for that stuff, but since by his claims he wasn't selling anything back then, and he's obviously not the type to give shit away, i fail to see how he is responsible for us having that stuff. i will give him credit because he has done a lot of good for the Pac community, but at the same time he's done as much bad for the community as well.
