This is a dope thread BUT to make it better you should stop posting lyrics and post why people need to hear this song/why its on your list.

Yeah that's obviously something I thought about. However, that would require a little too much. Hopefully people take my word for it and grab these songs. But if not, that's ok too.

You should know these songs already. If you don't you should think maybe I should look more into rap and be thinking of dl'n these anyway. So linx shouldn't have to explain anything. Also lyrics should justify it more then his opinion, cus you should be forming your own, so download these if you dont have them already. Better yet download the album cus most of these are off of really good albums.

By the way linx Travelin Man is off of HII by DJ Honda.

Yeah, it's basically some dope classics (new and old) mixed with some good personal favorites. Obviously there are more than 100 good songs a Hip Hop head should hear. But who says I gotta stop here?

Btw, i'm aware of that Mos Def song being on the DJ Honda. However, it appeared on a few other things as well. Including the new Mos Def compilation Mos Definite.

38. Brand Nubian - All For One
http://www.zshare.net/audio/36890211e69119/
Album: One For All (1990)

"I hit a beat and swing a note as if my name was david ruffin
Quick to toast an mc just like an english muffin
Don’t worry about a thing cause the puba’s never bluffin
I gets headaches from the wack, so then I take a bufferin and I max
I wait until the opportune time and then I tax
But should I max?
Now they say sinning is for sinners so I guess I’m not a sinner
Beginnings is for beginners so I guess I’m no beginner
This is how I spark it, with money in my pocket
When it comes to having pressure I gets hard as a rocket
Mc grand pu, coming through all the residue
The songs remain classics, dating back to the babalu
My boys I call em hot, the phones all of them jock
And I can think of many episodes I swung in lincoln park
No I’m not a phony and I got a tenderoni
Love the way she is -- not too fat, not too bony
Don’t drink sanka, won’t sink like a tanker
Knock the boots of a skirt in casablanca and I thank her
Some rappers stink, like englebert humperdink
Better yet dick caveat, I got a bad habit
Similar to the girl, on she’s gotta have it
I think with the brain and I whip behind the zipper
I’m living kinda good similar to jack tripper
A landlord named roper did a show at the copa
When I finish with this, I’ll be paid like oprah
So if honey wants to act fly
I’ll just play like guy and I’m [saying bye bye..]
[.. dumb bitch] stick out your thumb and hitch
Cause you’ve been cut off like a lightswitch
See I’m programmed to slam with the summer, spring, and fall
Before I do a show I get some kicks out the mall
Then I get my gear and I give trev a call
Cause he works in the barbershop, right behind the mall
Other rappers tried to rob me but you know they got did
To put it blunt, honey I smoked the kids
So hookers back off break north here comes the regulator
Cause you doesn’t find none greater"

39. Pharcyde - Passin' Me Bye
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3689047e913a8a/
Album: Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde (1992)

"Now in my younger days I used to sport as shag
When I went to school I carried lunch in a bag
With an apple for my teacher 'cause I knew I'd get a kiss
Always got mad when the class was dismissed
But when it was in session, I always had a question
I would raise my hand to make her stagger to my desk and
help me with my problem, it was never much
Just a trick, to smell her scent and try to sneak a touch
Oh, how I wish I could hold her hand and give her a hug
She was married to the man, he was a thug,
His name was Lee, he drove a Z,
he'd pick her up from school promptly at three o'clock
I was on her jock, yes indeedy I wrote graffiti on the bus
First I'd write her name then carve a plus,
with my name last, on the looking glass,
I seen her yesterday but still I had to let her pass"

40. Joe Budden - Dumb Out
http://www.zshare.net/audio/368908669d8ed4/
Album: n/a (2006)

"I'll sum it up to what he is about
Still new to both, they still feelin' him out
Things were type blam, Joey seasoned him out
I'm the nicest dude out since "Reasonable Doubt"
Say it ain't so
Rest In Peace Luther, there's some other niggaz gay on the low
So live, who can see 'em, no guy
I'm the Mets, was suppose to be ill in '05
As ill as the flow gets, need a piller don't snitch
So if you can't tell, I'm prepared for '06
About to OD, anybody that know me
Can tell you I'm bout to make shit feel like it's '03
More like '99
No names should be mentioned but mine, unless you talkin' Big Pun in his
prime
Maybe '96 Jay, before Dame was throwin' money around
Or 2pac without Humpty around
Or 50 before Em, Nas talkin' like a gun in his song
Cam'ron during "Children Of The Corn"
Beans before the cops came through and try to grill 'em
I'm talkin '95, Big L before they killed 'em
Em before 8 Mile, Shyne before the deal shit
Canibus, no album out before the L shit
Talkin' bout Kiss, DMX when he was fuckin' wit coke
Or Cuban Linx, with Raekwon and Ghost
I do it all, who blendin' so well in the game
Talkin' Fab, back when he was still spellin' his name
On my Diddy shit, Memphis, Grizzlie shit
Like back in the day when Clue swiped all of Biggie's shit
Rappers don't need trouble with I
Unless it's Rass Kass before the D.W.I
Or Talib with Mos, Common before "Be"
If they any less common, don't put 'em before me
See, I'm not a rapper, I'm a prophet
Tell Joe stop it, skill will speak for you, don't pop shit
Fuck jail, I'm on my payroll cop shit
I call that bootleg cable, it's no box shit
All black, lookin' grimey in the crowd
Heat on him, no shirt, don't try me when I'm out
I toast somethin' tiny that'll blauh
Ain't gotta see Paul Wall, if you want somethin' shiney in your mouth"

41. Big Daddy Kane - Ain't No Half Steppin'
http://www.zshare.net/audio/36892388b6b637/
Album: Long Live The Kane (1988)

"Rappers stepping to me they want to get some
But I’m the Kane, so yo, you know the outcome
Another victory
They can’t get with me
So pick a BC date cause you’re history
I’m the authentic poet to get lyrical
For you to beat me, it’s gonna take a miracle
And, stepping to me, yo that’s the wrong move
So what you on, Hobbs, dope or dog food?
Competition I just devour
Like a pitbull against a Chihuahua
Cause when it comes to being dope, hot damn
I got it good, now let me tell you who I am
The B-I-G D-A-double D-Y K-A-N-E
Dramatic, Asiatic, not like many
I’m different, so don’t compare me to another
Cause they can’t hang, word to the mother
At least not with the principal in this pedigree
So when I roll on you rappers, you better be
Ready to die because you’re petty
You’re just a butter knife, I’m a machete
That’s made by Ginzu, wait until when you
Try to front, so I can chop into
Your body, just because you try to be basing
Friday the 13th, I’mma play Jason
No type of joke, gag, game, puzzle or riddle
The name is Big Daddy, yes Big not little
So define it
Here’s your walking papers, sign it
And take a walk
As the Kane start to talk, cause..."

42. Digable Planets - Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like Dat)
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3689622c608f86/
Album: Reachin': A New Refutation Of Time And Space (1993)

" We like the breeze flow straight out of our lids
Them they got moved by these hard rock Brooklyn kids
Us flow a rush when the DJ's boomin classics
You dig the crew on the fattest hip hop records
He touch the kinks and sinks into the sounds
She frequents the fatter joints called undergrounds
Our funk zooms like you hit the Mary Jane
They flock to booms man boogie had to change
Who freaks the clips with mad amount percussion
Where kinky hair goes to unthought-of dimensions
Why's it so fly cause hip hop kept some drama
When Butterfly rocked his light blue-suede Pumas
What by the cut we push it off the corner
How was the buzz entire hip hop era?
Was fresh and fat since they started sayin audi
Cause funks made fat from right beneath my hoodie
The puba of the styles like miles and shit
Like sixties funky worms with waves and perms
Just sendin chunky rhythms right down ya block
We be to rap what key be to lock
But "

43. Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg - Deep Cover
http://www.zshare.net/audio/368972420bbbae/
Album: Deep Cover Soundtrack (1996)

"Creep with me as I crawl through the hood,
Maniac, lunatic, call 'em Snoop Eastwood
Kickin dust as I bust fuck peace
And, the mothafuckin drug police
You already know I gives a fuck about a cop
So why in the fuck would you think that it would stop
Plot, yeah, that's what we's about to do
Take your ass on a mission with the boys in blue
Dre, (whatup, Snoop) yo I got the feelin
Tonight's the night like Betty Wright, and I'm chillin
Killin, feelin, no remorse, yeah
So lets go straight to the motherfuckin' source
And see what we can find
Crooked ass cops that be gettin niggaz a gang of times
And now they wanna make a deal with me
Scoop me up and put me on they team and chill with me
And make my pockets bigger
They want to meet with me tonight at 7:00, so whassup nigger?
What you wanna do? (What you wanna do?)
I got the gauge, a uzi and the mothafuckin 22

If we stick 'em then we stuck 'em so fuck 'em!" "

44. Common - I Used To Love H.E.R.
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3689353f9aa79d/
Album: Resurrection (1994)

"I met this girl, when I was 10 years old
And what I loved most, she had so much soul
She was old school, when I was just a shorty
Never knew throughout my life she would be there for me
on the regular, not a church girl, she was secular
Not about the money, no studs was mic checkin her
But I respected her, she hit me in the heart
A few New York niggaz, had did her in the park
But she was there for me, and I was there for her
Pull out a chair for her, turn on the air for her
and just cool out, cool out and listen to her
Sittin on bone, wishin that I could do her
Eventually if it was meant to be, then it would be
cuz' we related, physically and mentally
And she was fun then, I'd be geeked when she'd come around
Slim was fresh jo, when she was underground
Original, pure untampered and down sister
Boy I tell ya, I miss her "

45. Tupac - Dear Mama
http://www.zshare.net/audio/36893056d2f2b6/
Album: Me Against The World (1995)

"When i was young, me and my mama had beef
17 years old kicked out on tha streets
Though back in tha time, i never thought i'd see her face
Ain't a woman alive that can take my momma's place
Suspended from school, scared ta go home
I was a fool with tha big boys breaking all tha rules
Shed tears with my baby sister
Over tha years we wuz poorer than tha other little kids
And even though we had different daddies
Tha same drama when things went wrong we blamed mama
I reminised on tha stress i caused, it wuz hell
Hugg'en on my mama from a jail cell
And who'ed think in elementary, heeeey i'd see tha penitentiary
One day
Running from tha police, that's right
Momma catch me--put a whoop'en to my backside
And even as a crack fiend mama,
Ya always was a black queen mama
I finally understand for a woman
It ain't easy--trying ta raise a man
Ya always wuz commited, a poor single mother on welfare,
Tell me how ya did it
There's no way i can pay ya back
But tha plan is ta show ya that i understand.
You are appreciated......"

Is it just me or is dear mama in terrible quality?
Yeah it is.. only because I didn't have Me Against The World when I uploaded Dear Mama. So I had to dl the song its self from a p2p program to put it up here. I'm still in the process of re-downloading alot of shit. I did get it shortly after though and I planned on re-uploading that. I did remember the quality on that one. :thumb:
