What happened to Common?

I loved Be and just finally copped Finding Forever, and I don't know (probably cause I'm intoxicated) if something changed with me or something changed with Common but damn, his voice has become even more annoying than Kanye's. Imma blame 'Ye for now.

FF would have been so much better if he had a deeper voice to match the mellow jazz vibe of the production.

Why does no intelectual rapper actually "sound" good anymore?

Com still dope though.

Common's voice always prevented me from being a fan of his music. Its too boring imo.

A rapper can be a great lyricist but if he has a shitty voice then i won't listen to him.

Oh jesus. You cannot be serious. 90% of the time when people say <insert rappers name here> voice is annoying, they make me laugh. Cause it makes no sense to me. There's certain rappers who DO have an annoying voice. But there aren't many at all. Infact, i'm trying to think of 1 or 2 off the top of my head right now and the only one I can think of is Lil Wanye. I probably shouldn't have mentioned him since I seem to do so often, but he's one that popped in my head. After all, that IS a reason why i'm not a fan. But to say Common has an annoying voice.. come the fuck on.

Kanye's voice isn't annoying at all. And I don't like Common. The way he raps is boring but his voice isn't annoying either. Canibus has a god awful voice.

See now, atleast that's debatable. I've heard quite a few people say they don't like Bis' voice. I don't have a problem with it at all, but it makes alot more sense than saying Common.

Common voice sounds almost the same as it did on "I Used 2 Love Her"...maybe U mean his delivery? Only person I can think of whose voice changed dramaticly is Nas (between his first two LPs)

Its typical though, a voice is one of the main weapons of a rapper...just like a actor, news reporter, even someone running 4 office.

Eminem's voice changed also. Actually most rappers do. Common or Kanye's voice doesn't annoy me at all. Swizz Beats annoys the fuck outta me though.

Well its natural 4 someones voice 2 change, but I think delivery has alot 2 do with it more then voice.. I mean their are times Waynes voice is annoying and times its not mainly because of the style he uses 4 a particular song.

Maybe its just me, I don't know I'll give it another listen. Its not so much that his voice is annoying, its just I don't like it over FF style production. BE is one of my fav albums but on FF I just found that I was wishing his voice was deeper.

Kanye's voice annoys me more than Em's.

Yea, I find his voice is only saved by his production while EM, least in his prime, his lyrics. I still enjoy 'Ye a bit though, enough to get his 2LPs and 3rd when it drops.

I agree. I made a thread about rappers with boring voices a while back.I think voice is very important.

Guru is another guy with a real boring voice, even though i do have all Gangstarr's albums.lol

Dude you are 100% right...!

I feel the same way. I feel like he's forcing it...forcing his intellectual style, forcing his attitude, forcing his fierceness towards "bling-blinging" rappers, forcing his slow jams to the ladies...etc. It's like he's not letting go and being loose, he's so uptight.

I love music because it's unforced, it just comes out and it just flowwwwws...but I listen to Common, Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, and it's like they don't have a musical rhythm, they are just trying to "educate" everybody and it's so annoying. On the album Be, Common was more laid back, relaxed, and things came together, but on this album it's got that forced sound.

(Everybody is guilty of it sometimes, but in terms of music, esp. hip hop, when a rapper lets go and just lets himself rhyme and have fun, that is the SHIT!!! Check Do or Die, Jay-Z...etc!)
