better Nas album?

Note: Lost Tapes not included because I have only listened to it casually while driving with my friend, who is a huge Nas fan. Thus, I am not at liberty to judge its content.

Actually to be honest... I enjoy Stillmatic more then Illmatic, not saying Illmatic isnt great, It's a classic! I just happen to enjoy the tracks and what each of them represent more so then Illmatic.

I guess because I didnt grow up listening to early 90s rap it's more difficult to listen to his first cd compared to Stillmatic.

So I would have to go with Stillmatic

your hip-hop evolution was cheated then', but I'm the same way with a good portion of 80's rap except KRS-One, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane and some Gang Star/EpMD...only ones I enjoy the good portion of their tracks

I understand what you are saying. If I go back to tracks I never listened to the first time around they're hard to get into. compared to modern tracks the beats sound really dated. Music in hip-hop has moved on a lot since the days where samples would be accompanied by drum machines and people would loop records.

But "New York State of Mind" is timeless.

i really like I am but illmatic has too take it, all Nases albums are strong including NAstradamus which i feel was solid but could never compete witht the two classics whic preceded it (illmatic + it as written)

I never liked Illmatic because of the beats (maybe because i don't like those grimey beats), lyrics are dope though, but you need one and two to make a rap song that I can listen to. I also didn't like Street Disciple and God's Son, I thought they were wack.

God's Son comes closest for me, its got some absolute beats on it and then theres Dance.
