Would you buy an 80GB PS3 for just $300? Would a $100 price drop have swayed you to nab a PS3 in lieu of an Xbox 360 or Wii over the holidays? Does the prospect of $300 Blu-ray playback make you swoon even a little?

Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter gazes into his crystal ball and says a $100 drop will happen this April, a move that will allow sales of the device to "once again begin to grow."

What's more, he think Microsoft could drop the Xbox 360 Pro's price from $300 to $250 around E3 2009 this summer, helping stave off market contraction as the overall economy struggles to recover (Pachter thinks concerns about waning consumer demand are "overblown").

Don't look for official confirmation on any of this, of course. Confirming price drops four to six months out would be intermediary sales suicide.

That said, if Sony does drop the PS3's pricing to $300 and its notable 2009 exclusives, e.g. Killzone 2, Heavy Rain, MAG, EyePet, Nobi Nobi Boy, God of War 3, and the one I'm most excited about, Uncharted 2, turn out to be as good as we're hoping, we could be having a very different discussion about console demographics this time next year.

The one thing that really turns me off Playstation is the controller. i hate it. I even had a controller with the same design as the PS2 controller for my PC. i never used it. Id always used the MS Sidewinder one instead.

It's so sad to see the PS3 dying.
I'd really love to have one for Yakuza though.
I wish it was cheaper than 360, the old fashioned ps2 way:cool:

I used to love the ps controller. That is untill I had my first Xbox and Dreamcast. Sony should release an optional controller that would suit us Europeans and Americans better. It's too small and analogs are not well placed.

The problem with the PS3 is it costs too much to make. They have to make the money from software sales.

<3 mine tho.

The Wii has a different problem....loadsa console sales but they don't move any games!

This current generation will probably remain alive and kicking for another 3, 4, maybe even 5 years.

I dont see a PS4 or Xbox 3 coming out before then.

True. The Wii games suck though... I haven't played my Wii in 3 months. Lack of good games.

The key factor of PS3 is Blu-Ray. And the PS3 will be a significant option for years to come when purchasing a BD player. The market share for BD Recorders have pass the 50% mark in Japan, and the US market is sure to follow. BD will quickly become mainstream and the price to manufacture a PS3 will go down, eventually turning to a profit. Even if this profit is small, Sony is collecting royalties in the BD market. Below the surface, it's an aggressive marketing strategy.

Personally, I'm waiting for it to get thinner and smaller.

Personally I think this price cut is too little too late. BD is still progressing but think that a lot of people still don't have HD tv. If no HD tv, no point in having a BD.

And the PS3 is lacking good games.

i agree. i cant see myself buying a hd tv for ages. And just because blu ray is becoming more popular in Japan doesnt necessarily mean that the rest of the world will follow suit.
