Sept. 16 (Bloomberg) -- Manchester City today denied that it is negotiating to sign the World Cup's leading goal scorer Ronaldo.

``We had shown a previous interest in the player and had spoken to his representatives at the time but he is not coming to the football club,'' Manchester City spokeswoman Victoria Kloss said in an interview.

U.K. media, including the Guardian, said the Brazilian, who turns 32 in two days, was close to accepting an offer to join country mates Robinho, Jo, Elano and Glauber Berti at Manchester City.

``They want to make the club one of the best in the world and I feel that I can help,'' the newspaper cited Ronaldo as saying. ``It is the best offer I've received and it will be very interesting to play with Robinho. Me and him, together, we can score more than 50 goals.''

Ronaldo, a three-time world player of the year, was released by AC Milan after last season and is recovering from a severed knee tendon he suffered in February.

City has been targeting global stars since Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment agreed to buy the team from Thaksin Shinawatra on Sept. 1. Manager Mark Hughes has said he won't take anyone he doesn't think would enhance the squad, the Guardian added.

Ronaldo has scored 15 goals in three World Cup finals.

Ronaldo eyeing a return to Brazil team

Wednesday, 10 September , 2008, 12:48

Rio de Janeiro: Veteran striker Ronaldo visited his former teammates at the Brazilian national team camp in Rio de Janeiro, and said that he is eyeing a return to the national team.

Ronaldo, who will turn 32 later this month, Tuesday expressed a desire to return to the national team after recovering from surgery in February on his left knee. "I came here to visit my friends, who until recently shared a space with me. I miss that whole atmosphere," the striker told Brazilian television network Globo.

Ronaldo visited the players and coach Dunga at the hotel ahead of the team's game Wednesday against Bolivia in the South American qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Ronaldo, who last played for Milan, is not part of any club squad and is practising at Brazilian club Flamengo in an effort to regain his best form. He said that a return to the national team was not an impossible goal.

"Nothing prevents anyone from returning to the Brazilian national team. That is valid both for me and for any other player," he said.

Ronaldo was in the Brazilian squad for four editions of the World Cup - United States 1994, France 1998, South Korea and Japan 2002 and Germany 2006. He won the trophy twice, in 1994 (without playing at all) and in 2002. Brazil reached the final, and lost, in 1998.

"The doors are always open - that depends on each person. The only thing that is required is that a player plays well with his club. We have to move forward little by little. First, I have to find a club and then I have to get back to playing," Ronaldo said.

^^ cafu was that old in 06 world cup wasnt he and he still played pretty well

there will always be room for new players. always. and thats because there will always be new talent available. but the older players will always have the knowledge and experience that the new players don't have, even if they are a bit slower. if Ronaldo was in top shape at 38, he'd still be one of the best, but only if he was in top shape.

Ronaldo hasn't been in top shape for awhile though, I mean injury wise not his weight lol. He hasn't got the fitness of Cafu, Cafu was a beast.

You have to remember, Cafu is a fit player, or was a fit player. Ronaldo has got two weak ass knees which prevent him from ever being 100% fit, his knees won't be physically able to cope with the pressue of professional football when hes 38. They barely support him now.

No, I rarely think of you. It wasn’t meant to diss you. Its just that Ronaldo has been out of the game a while now, and I find it difficult to understand how would you know if he is motivated or not.

I usually don't get annoyed, and I like Rahim, he's cool, but I feel like closing this shit.

Stick a fork in Ronaldo, he's done and has been done for a while. That AC Milan move was doomed to fail also, he scored a few, and that's that. He's too busy with everything else. The man has lived his carreer as one of the best, and he once was the best.
