Time travel possible; Russian scientists say

Two Russian scientists claim that the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a particle accelerator in Switzerland, may be the world's first time machine. They're in the process of trying to recreate a miniature Big Bang. They're not sure exactly what will happen, but my guess is destroy the planet somehow. The first particle smash goes down in May, and they believe it may create a rip in the fabric of time, making time travel possible.

I would like an extensive, simplified explanation. They "think" it could cause a ripple in time. It might as well just cause a tiny "poof" then? It sounded sorta random to me lol.

Whatever mass or energy they use, I doubt like countries with nuclear bombs would allow it if it jeopardized the earth. A ripple in time would probably take a lot of energy to create.

Will be watching this further.

I thought they were already doing this but trying to create tiny black holes, so small they'd collapse on themselves. As long as they keep things moving I guess.

I don't think producing black holes is their intent, just a potential side-effect. And they think they'll probably just decay.

This was way before and that's what they were trying to do, I bet they learned something from tests and came up with this. Whatever the outcome I hope it's something that makes the Physics world go crazy.

wow this claim is totally unfounded. One physicist said this, there was no consensus or ne thing. idk how they can even make a claim like that lol.

They'll start up the machine and it will explode, killing everyone near it at the time. Mark my words.
They'll start up the machine and it will explode, sending everyone near it back two seconds through time, so that they'll have to experience the explosion over and over again for all eternity. Mark my words. Go ahead, get your marker.

One day, Joe had a thought. Joe thought the world revolved around the Sun. But the consensus was that the world was the center of the universe. The consensus was not happy with Joe, so the consensus stoned him until his evil head splattered on the sandy ground.

Don't be a consensus.

Either the machine will work without any side effects, or it will misfire in a most spectacular fashion.

and by spectacular, he means he's going to be teleported back into the Renaissance and live his life as a meer Hobo.

dope, no summer-exams for the win :D:cool:

I thought this kind of stuff already happened years ago?
At least I read so in a Dan Brown book :D

besides, this is pure BS
even IF it's gonna create a tiny big bang (which is something they're HOPING for, they don't even know), the real big bang didn't cause a crack in time did it, it created a universe

Think of it this way; the big bang created our universe and thus time. This new one may create a mini universe and time within time, causing the rip.

Possibly. I guess. I think. *shrugs*
