I won an Ipad today.

Yeah I saw all these crying Apple fanboys, arguing that it should be theirs.

Now the story. There's an online contest on one of our online stores/auction sites in association with one of our banks. Amongst people who buy something for a proper price and pay with their system they picked a bunch of people who were given a chance to win an Ipad. You had to write a short marketing "slogan" and answer a bunch of questions.
Since I bought a new Bravia TV I thought "what the heck, let's give it a try" and participated in it. Yesterday I received an email that I should visit their office to verify my personal details etc.
Today I went there, signed a paper that I am me and left with a brand new Ipad 16gb wifi. As I was leaving I saw a few fanboys arguing that their slogans were better, that they paid more etc. etc. There was a guy who travelled 200km just to argue. I left like I didn't give a fuck :noworry:

I'm happy since a few weeks ago I bought myself a new, awesome Bravia TV aaand.. I'll play with this Apple thing and sell it for a price higher than I bought my TV for. Ha.

Not really because as opposed to many Apple haters I'm actually familiar with Apple systems
So far it's actually pissing me off because there's nothing cool to do with it except of Games, like Gotti pointed out. And I'd have to pay for most worth playing.
There's nothing to do with the system itself. It looks okay but is very simple and boring.

Also, as I thought I can't find any use for a tablet. And it goes for all tablets for me.
It's too big to carry around and too small, impractical and basic to do any real work. And when I think that it costs more than my new TV it almost makes me feel bad about using it instead of instantly selling.

Well, thing is that I don't really need it. And it's not because it's Apple. I wouldn't even need it if it was an Android tablet. I prefer gaming on my PC/Xbox or even laptop. I prefer working on my laptop. I prefer watching movies on the TV. Maybe if I had a huge home I could carry this thing around but I live in a flat and always have a huge screen TV nearby. When I'm not at home I have my mobile phone and sometimes a laptop when I need it.
These tablets are like huge mobile phones with huge screens.
The only time I really find this Ipad more comfortable than other devices I already have is when I'm shitting It's also quite useful while studying, reading a book. However I'd rather get a netbook than a tablet if I had to choose a portable device of that size and price range.

Tablets are not worth even half of their price to me personally and right now I could get almost its full price for it and they're more expensive here than in the US. Actually Ipads are quite expensive for our standards. To put it into perspective it's approx one average monthly wage for the one I have.

Oh, I totally understand how ambiguous the role of a tablet is at this point. I'm sure it'll find its own niche sooner or later. I can definitely see it being useful in the business world or in businesses, like Mercedes does with allowing customers to use one to configure their cars in the showroom. More of a gimmick, but it certainly has its uses.

With a casual user, I dunno how I would use it. I would need something quick if I'm on the bus or on the go and need to check something. My phone does that, although with a screen half that size. My tablet would be in my backpack, with my laptop since I need to be productive and my laptop does it better than a tablet. So if I need to reach for my tablet in my backpack, why not bring out the laptop?

Our college transits aren't crowded at all, so I could have two seats to myself and do it all of this, but again, my phone is much more readily-accessible.

But if I got a tablet for free, fuck it, I'd use it. At least keep it, unless I was offered something outrageous for it.

I find it hard to believe hackers have just sat around working on everything BUT Flash advancements.

Nope. It was a disappointment to me. I may have kept my iphone for longer if they had.


Edit - Apparently there is a jailbreak app that allows flash. But only very basic flash. ie. No video. So, no porn. So... Pointless.

Ive been reading iphone/ipad supports HTML5 which is cool, but html5 is still very restricted with what type of video can be embedded.

I love how it takes two paragraphs to make arguments for why you don't need it and why you won't fall in love with it. That kinda tells me it is very important to you that nobody thinks you will like this iPad. Lmao, Apple haters, you can say you are "familiar with Apples systems" or whatever you like but it makes you no different to any other Apple hater Stop explaining why you won't ever start liking the iPad and embrace the fact that you own one now, not for me but for yourself god darnit.

You seem pretty 100% confident that you will not change your mind, and that just makes no sense when you already won it. I read every argument for why you don't think you'll like it and you sound like someone in denial. No one walks around with more than 10 reasons for or against having a tablet. If they do, they have wasted too much time thinking about the potential of having a tablet. It's a toy, you won it for free, stop the rationalizing.

Most of my points were about a Tablet overall and not the very Ipad device. That would also fit the description of Samsung Tab, HTC Slate and other similar devices. I was also partially answering the question and explaining why I don't like it so maybe someone could potentially relate.

And what you did there was - you assumed that I'm in denial while saying how much Ipads sucks and that I made it seem like I'm not taking any side and the fact that I have an Ipad was supposed to prove that. While in fact I tried to explain myself to make it clear that I'm not talking about Ipad in particular. I think it sucks for a bunch of other reasons I didn't mention. However here I mentioned a tablet as a form factor for a device and why I don't think I need it and why I don't think it's too useful for a person like me. Especially for that price.

I won it but the fact that I won it doesn't mean that I can either have it or give it away. I can sell it and actually do something else with that money. For example for the very same price I could buy a bunch of other things I would find much more useful at the moment. Especially since I already have a potential buyer.

Now I'll get defensive about that Apple part
"I'm familiar with Apple systems" wasn't there just because I have an Ipad and now I can say that I'm familiar with it. I like techy stuff and I check out most things coming out, Apple or not. I played with Ipads before, using it gives a bit different perspective but still it didn't convince me at all.
I'm really the type of person who did their homework and checked out "what's up with these Apple products".
Despite my dislike for Apple as a company I try not to be biased and I don't have to because I'm not only comparing the tech sheet but also know them in practice and can compare to other devices/ systems I'm familiar with. My dislike for Apple started with my experience with their hardware pricing, Mac OS and other of their software, not by the way that Apple achieved their success.
Actually I'm not too biased if it comes to any tech product. I used to dislike Google but I love Android and some of their other services, I dislike Microsoft but I love Windows 7 and really enjoy my Xbox etc.
If someone asks me - "Do you like Microsoft?" I'll say "No but they created a few great Windows systems and Xbox".
If someone asks me "Do you like Apple" there's nothing I can say in their defense, honestly. Maybe that they're making great business and marketing moves but I don't approve them.
You would get a similar response from most people who are really into technology.

Wooo, iPads are coming to VZW. Although it's the WiFi-only version, they're selling the iPad with a mobile hotspot thingy for the same price as the 3G iPad.

Big news, though. Means we will indeed see an iPhone on VZW. Rumor has it India will be getting a CDMA version as well.

That's the best reason....

I couldn't view any embedded video with my iphone... I am not a blind hater. I've had both phones. And I liked the iphone. My issues with it were that I had to jailbreak to get the functionality I required. And I couldn't get many youtube videos. Or any videos on Yahoo Sports. Or any porn.

It annoyed me. And I wasn't getting the full experience. Who are apple to tell me what I can or cannot view. They are worse than microsoft. I don't want to use Safari. And I want to be able to view Flash. Even if I had no need.... I would still be disappointed by that attitude.

I also didn't like the way that only certain apps made it to the app store. When there were cheaper just as useful options on cydia.
