Allahu Akbar...

Long story short I've had a friend I've known online for 8yrs, she's Arab non-practicing Muslim (her parents are). The other day she decided she "wanted nothing 2 do with me" because of something I said in a song.

Now while I reworked the Arabic phrase; I was not talking about Muslims or Arabs, nor about Islam. I was speaking about the greed of America (or humanity as a whole even) - and instead of saying "Allahu Akbar" in one part - I said "Dollahu Akbar" to jus show our worship of money.

Not even tryna argueif its a cool line or not I don't care if u hate it. All I'm saying is she was gravely offended by this, said any Muslim that heard me say that would shoot me in the throat, and cut ties with me. Saying how sacred it is to them, its holier than the Qu'ran etc.

All I was getting at in disagreement with her was the fact that my belief is words should not be made holy - its the idea that they're expressing that matters - not the world or phrase itself. While I understand its an Arabic phrase, I was in no way, shape or form attacking or degrading them. I rework different phrases all the time as I'm sure others do. Not to mention the fact that its been popularized lately in Western culture through terrorist usage.

And another thing she couldn't answer me - why it was sooo wrong of me to say what I said; but its funny and acceptable when were watching her friend battle and he talks about killin random people for no reason, blowin shit up, and screamin "Allahu Akbar" afterwards...I'm not even inciting any violence or hatred towards a culture.

I just don't get it.

But I was interested in your opinions on the "holiness" of the phrase (especially from an Islamic perspective) and if words/phrases should be regarded as holy anyways.

Peace

Yeah, those are the shortsighted walking tumours that champion themselves as beacons of moral light, yet all they succeed in is keeping humanity back with their stupid ideals and their sheer propensity for violence over nothing.

I'd say, fuck her, fuck her parents, fuck her family, fuck her friends.

But most of all, fuck her religion.

Yeah, I said it. Fuck it.

Typical muslim sensitivity. They can get away with everything, but if you point the finger at them, you're the devilman. Plain and simple. Disgusting, is what it is.

What the hell, man. You've known her for 8 years and she wants to cut ties because of that?
WOW. And then Muslims wonder why some people don't like them. After all it's their religion that causes this.

*waits for a muslim to come in and put the blame on us*

Because obviously, since we denounce this ridiculous, shortsighted, hypocritical behaviour, WE'RE the ones that are wrong. We're clearly hating on Islam.

*roll eyes*

The thing that really gets to me is that Limm pointed out that this woman is apparently perfectly ok with another rapper discribung sultry acts of violence and concluding with "Allah Akhbar". Does she think THAT is not blasphemous? That something like that doesn't paint a bad picture?

So many (too many) Muslims are so fucking hypocritical when it comes to what they will and won't get pissed off over. There is no consistency, no self-criticism, no reflection whatsoever.

Also, I'm sorry to have missed the main point of your thread completely in my knee-jerk reaction to another dumb believer.

Anyway, no, I don't think any words should be considered as holy. Holy to some, of course, but what's holy to some you cannot make holy for all.

Words are merely that, words.

Some atheists on this board are really MAD at the God they don't believe in.
Mad at their followers, not at a God that doesn't exist.

I couldn't give a fuck about their God or their religion if they kept it to themselves.

Therein lies the problem.

I hate religious people... This makes me pretty mad. But then she's an online friend. Which is an oxymoron in itself.

Exactly, best way to get back at her.

Have sex with her, her parents, her family and her friends.
