Bring the Pope to Justice

The Pope ignored and even rewarded the rape of children before he became the Pope. I know this and I think we all know this. But I must ask, do we really need another "Let's Bash Religion" thread?

No, we should not discuss his role in the coverup of systematic child molestation because he's a religious leader.

most roman catholics i know are completey out of touch with this pope. he is a dickhead.
Absolutely. But most Roman Catholics I know (including my family and formerly myself) also consider this Pope to be Christ's representative on Earth. That is a part of the problem.

^i say everyone should bash it til it's gone
That's all well and good, but if the board continues on the path it's on, we're more likely to bash religion till the board is boring. We're nearly there already.

Jokerman: you thanked him for that, really? I'm disappointed. You're supposed to be the big intellectual on this board, yet you're not bored by the singular tone it's taking? I think that's weird.

No, Euphaniasia is right in a way. If with "bash" you mean consistently verbally attack the Church as an institution then it's the only normal (peaceful) manner in which we can do this.

Therein lies the problem, the Church as an institution. Most Catholics will indeed wholeheartedly disagree with the abuse cover-ups, but all non-clergy Catholics aren't in charge of dealing with absusive priests. The thing that there's a higher institution protecting these criminals (child abusers) on which the justice system apparently has too little hold.

And thats my beef with institutional religion.

This statement holds no value because the threads about religion always get the most replies (relatively). Still, even after the 100th thread. And certainly, the anti-religion members are not alone in these threads.

Ristol986, I'm not sure how to take this response because if people on this board are becoming redundant on criticizing something so detrimental to society, how is that bad? I think that's fantastic. I think that the fact that so many people on this board are intelligent enough and bold enough to bash something that is normally taboo to criticize in society....well that's a positive thing. I want to see as much of that as I can. If I was on a message board that constantly bashed gay rights I would be equally pleased to see people outraged. Things change in the world because they are constantly addressed, not because they are held back for fear of being voiced too often. I understand this is a message board and not a political/social platform but I'll take anything I can get right now in regards to this issue.

And I don't agree with some of the things you say, but I've read enough to know you're smarter than that.

I hear ya. To be honest, I was just kind of pissy the other day. I wanted to get into it with Jokerman a little bit. Not sure why. I mean I stand by what I said about too many anti-religion threads, but I should have made it clear that I'm not a religious guy myself. From now on I think I'll just join in the bashing instead of having people dislike me. I'll start by posting this:
