Appearently Microsoft has banned my Xbox360 from Xbox live for whatever reason.
I was really busy lately and didn't really play much. A few days ago I bought a 12 month gold, I tried to go online and... Bam! Or should I say "Ban".
I called them yesterday and asked what the fuck. They told me that they don't know but there's been a huge banning wave in November with over a million consoles banned and they can't help me because bans were placed automatically by their system. Oh and by the way it also means that I've lost my warranty. How sweet.
What the fuck? I don't cheat and don't play pirated games ffs. I was barely playing GTA4 and maybe 2 other games online really occasionally.
Seriously, what the fuck are they thinking. They've lost a loyal customer.

Well, I didn't mod it. I bought it online from a guy who also mods consoles but mine was brand new with untouched seals and all so I don't think that mine was modded.

It sucks. Now I won't pay for their xbox live. I don't know what's the point in banning modded consoles. A smaller profit?

well as far as i know they were targeting consoles that had been modded so a user could cheat on xbox live or ones that allowed them to play pirated games.

for your console to have been banned, it must have been modded. is there a way you could find out?

Most modded consoles have their warranty seals removed because you have to take out the dvd rom to install a different, modded bios that wouldn't "block" backups from running.
Mine has the seal untouched so it's a strange thing.

PS3's cant be modded at all as far as i know.

masta, i could have sworn that you said before that one of the reasons as to why you preferred xbox 360 was because you are able to mod them and it didnt matter because you didnt intend to play online much? lol

It's got to be modded. I don't think that they would just ban you randomly.

Anyway, that sucks. Complain and get your money back somehow.

Today I found out that one of my friends also got banned and his xbox360 is 100% legit, he bought it a few months ago at a huge electronics store.
Apparently they ban people for being Polish and playing on British servers lol. Officially there's no Xbox Live in Poland as we don't have our own xbox live servers. So technically you have to lie about the place you live in and they ban you for that. That's what he was told by someone at Microsoft. It's just stupid. Especially since Microsoft is selling xbox live gold cards, Microsoft points and headsets here.

@Bobby: Yeah I think I said that and mentioned that it's a huge advantage of Xbox360. Many people mod their xboxes. However I didn't. The only option is that it was modded before I even bought it since I got it online from a guy who mods them. I have a few games, a few that I regularly exchange and I also borrow some from my friends and I still have a few I haven't played yet so I wouldn't get any advantages from modding.

^^well if your friend got banned as well for being Polish lol then its likely you did too.

that is ridiculous though and doesnt make sense from a business point of view either. I know it states on the xbox live guidelines that the service isnt available in some countries (is Poland listed?) but it should be available if they are selling the cards, headsets, etc there.

you need to fight your way on this one imo. The least they should do is refund what you paid for the gold card.

yeah officially we're not listed there (they say it's not available). But lol, there are really huge amounts of people here playing either on German, French or British servers and nobody ever said that it's illegal. It was just that it's not available since we don't have our own servers.

They said that it will be available in the future but it was not for.. 9 years? (counting the first xbox and its online functionality).

It was a really stupid move from Microsoft. I've bought my xbox live gold online so I doubt that I'll get a refund.
What is even more stupid that while getting your xbox banned from live they also block your hard drive

yea but if they sold you a gold card and the service is not available in your country then you are entitled to a refund imo. you need to get after them on this.

If Poland is not listed in the guidelines as one of the countries where the xbox live service is not available and they sell membership cards, marketplace points, headsets, wireless adapters etc then how are you supposed to know that you are not meant to use the service. its ridiculous.

They would probably argue that since he was using a British server, the system sold him the points because it assumed that he was in Britain.

Still - there should be a way to get refunded. Perhaps some sort of bureau you can complain to. Do Sega have a base in Poland?

I suppose you've meant Microsoft, not Sega? :p

Sega doesn't, Microsoft does. There's even a Microsoft spot at my uni where some of my friends work and they'll become the first victims of my anger since they sell various Xbox live stuff and they are fanboys lol.

I already wrote a message about that xbox live card. I wonder how this turns out.

yea but from what i understand he purchased the gold card in a store in Poland. they are selling xbox live merchandise in a country where xbox live cannot be used. unless its being illegally sold there of course.

Yeah, my bad. I had Sega on my mind from the Shenmue thread, lolz.

Yeah make sure you go speak to some people who work for Microsoft and see what can be done.

You could probably sue to be honest. You need to see if they have something in their terms of service that stops you from playing on over seas servers...

Why now though? Id take it as a sign that they are about to launch Xbox Live Poland and want people to use that instead of saying "well I already have a British account," so it could all work out for the best.
