Technology wtf is my burner doing?

Ok, so here's the problem, it's a Memorex DVD+/-DLRWL1 F16 and i have made no software or hardware changes, yesterday it was working perfectly, but today it won't read or write cds, it will read dvds tho which is what has me so confused.

^^^already did and it's internal, all of the cables are good and it haas no errors, and then with another utility that came with the burner (nero info tool) and it has check marks next to everything it can read/write, and it has (read) cd-r, cd-rw, dvd-rom, dvd-r, dvd-rw, dvd+r, dvd+rw, dvd+r dl, cd text, cd+g, c2 errors, (write) cd-r, cd-rw, dvd-r, dvd-rw, dvd+r, dvd+rw, dvd+r dl, and buffer underrun protection, and btw it would prolly be cheaper to get a new burner than it would be to pay a tech and/or get a new lens.

ok try this

go to start,run,type msconfig

then it will open a configuration utility program

go to the services tab

theres this one called IMAPI CD-Burning COM service. if theres no check mark beside it,check mark it.then restart the computer

also check to see if theres anyone that are unchecked that say Microsoft Corporation under Manufacturer.If they are unchecked then check it.

restart the computer

then it should work(if that was the problem).

let us know

if my tip didnt help,then the reason why it wont read cds or burn them is because it has 2 lenses.One is for cds,and the other is for dvds. now the cd lense mighta got fucked up,so you're left with the dvd lens.basically the drive is only useufl now to read and burn dvds.you will have to get a separate recorder for cds.

all boxes are checked, and i can see where ur coming from, but i think it only has one lens, but im not sure, u might be right, i already have another burner hooked up too, and it gets to about 3 - 5% and then fails, im doing nothing on the computer while its burning, so do u think that i should just buy a new cd burner or a new combo burner.
