Wrongly convicted

#1
I was watching Women on Death Row on WE the other night and they were telling stories about these women on death row that were wrongly convicted. Most of them said they weren't guilty, of course, and that they got convicted because of things being left out of the trial and whatnot. One woman in particular who was sentenced to death got someone to research her case and won a new trial. In that new trial, things that weren't presented in the first trial came out and she was found not guilty. She spent six years in prison wrongly convicted. When she went in, the media were swarming around her. When she was found not guilty and walked out of that prison a free woman, not one single reporter was there. There were no apologies made to her for taking six years of her life away. No "we're sorry you missed out on six years of your child's life", no "we apologize for what we've done", no nothing. In the state she lives in, there is no financial compensation for the wrongly convicted. In fact, there are very few states with financial compensation and the ones that do, it is minimal. This is complete bullshit. How do you take years of someone's life away from them and make no amends for it? One man interviewed said there should be compensation at least equivalent to whatever they would have made on their job had they never been locked up and even substantially more wouldn't bankrupt anyone as there are very few cases like this. I think they should pay them at least whatever minimum wage is in that state times maybe like 30-40 hrs per week for however long they were locked up and then a set amount more just for the nightmare they went through. Plus I think they should offer them counseling for however long they need it because you know it has to be traumatic for someone to sit in prison, especially death row, knowing they didn't commit the crime they were convicted for.
So what are y'alls thoughts on the situation? Y'all think they should be compensated or should just being a free person be enough for them? Please discuss.

I'm pretty sure she could sue the state for wrongful arrest and be set for life but I agree there should be compensation. Being free isnt enough you never get that time back not forgetting that you know people will still look at you and think in the back of there minds about it.

Oh most definately. Like with her, she's gone on to get married and has two more kids besides the one she had when she was convicted and she has to watch every little thing that happens with her two younger children because she was convicted of killing her baby, that was later determined to be SIDS or something like that. Now she has to hope that her children never get hurt badly because they'll be on her ass thinking she did something to them. That's got to be a hard way to live for her because anything can happen with children even if you're right there watching them.
I don't know about where she lives but here where I'm at, they say if you sue the city or county for something like that, you may as well move away because the crooked ass cops here will make your life hell if you stay. I know 4 brothers that were locked up, interrogated, and kept on lockdown for days for something they didn't do and had to be let out because they caught the person that actually committed the crime. They were gonna sue the city but so many people warned them of how it'd be if they did so they decided not to because their whole family is here and they didn't wanna leave. Fucked up if you ask me.

Of course they should get compensated, even thought there is not enough money on the whole damn planet to compensated years of prison. Anyway, these guys should get something.

They should definately get compensated. This is one of the reasons why I am against the death penalty but that is a completely different discussion. No matter what, these wrongly convicted people who are later found not guilty are subject to the scruinty of being associated with the crime in question, which pervents them from getting future jobs. Not only are their lives ruined, but any hope of healing are diminished by the question of their innocence in everyday living.
