ok, this is like the second time i try to install service pack 2 for xp home edition. both times have been unsuccessful because of one small annoying thing. every time i try to right-click a shortcut on my desktop or quicklaunch i get a dr. watson error. it says "Program Error: explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program." here's what the dr. watson log said for the error: Click here for log

o yeh, also, I never encountered this error in service pack 1 or prior

thanks for your time and help in advance :)

yeh, thats what came to my mind at first to do too. didn't work how i disabled dr. watson first and it didnt work this time either :( . without dr. watson this error comes up: explorer.exe - Application Error: The instruction at "0x0228415b" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written". Thanks for trying though ..repped :thumb:

Found this AFTER removing sp2 and attempting to go to sp1 :( ...got stuck in between both sp's for a long time and was screwed...finally got around it (FYI Cryptographic services are a BITCH). reinstalled sp1, then reinstalled sp2, finally uninstalled dr. divx completely (PELLA hinted at a registry fix which is mentioned in aforementioned link) and was fine.

I wouldve called microsoft, but it was too late. I had already removed sp2 and had got other problems. Then I found the answer to my SP2 problem...don't know how the hell i found it.

I'm so glad my computer is normal now :D

thanx for the help everyone!
