Why Didnt HBK Ever Get As Large As The Rock Or Austin?

#1
Back in the good ol days HBK was huge in the wwf, he had the huge title reign, helped usher in the WWF Attitude era with Degeneration X, and was one of the biggest stars back then. But why didnt he ever blow up to the level of fame as austin or the rock? I dont think hes done to much in movies or anything i know hes made a few cameos here and there but even triple h has been in a couple movies..smh You would think HBK would like that kinda stuff more than hhh. Did hbk ever say he never wanted to do movies or other forms of entertainment? Hes got the charisma for it

jus lookin back on all that and hbk's personality you woulda thought at the height of his wwf/e career he woulda done some movies or tried to blow up or something but he never got as big as the rock, austin or even hogan for that matter

I guess he (HBK) didn't have that extra umph that The Rock and Hogan has. He was popular but never as popular as other WWE stars like Austin, Rock, Hogan, and probably to a lesser extent Undertaker. I never really did see HBK as a movie star to tell you the truth.

Who knows. He was forced out just as Austin was really taking off and if he was around full time when the WWF (and DX) was at its peak around late 98 and 99 and it was easy for them to go off on other projects, then maybe he might of got to that next level of popularity.

As far as going off into other ventures I remember him saying that he wasnt very happy with his life apart from when he was in the ring in front of his fans, so maybe he just wasnt interested in leaving that behind to branch of into films or whatever.

Now that hes older and a "changed man" maybe hes just not interested in doing other things and is satisfied with the buzz he gets from performing in the ring. "Now my family is my life, my faith is my life, and my work is my work"

But Im sure that amongst real fans he will be remembered with Austin and Rock and as one of the greatest performers to step foot in the ring.

Edit: Lmao, i got to thinking about this and am I correct in remembering him having a cameo in Baywatch along with Kevin Nash (unsure about Nash). It just popped into my head out of nowhere and i can vaguely picture it.

Another Note, the Undertakers character has been successful for awhile, how come hes only been champ 4 times?
He's never really needed the title. Some wrestlers need to have the belt or be fighting for the belt to give their character a purpose; 'Taker doesn't.

^ thats why wrestling is pathetic now. i have no problem with new and up and coming stars, but to see the likes of bradshaw, booker t, and jericho be contenders for the world title is depressing. These are the same guys that were contenders for the "TV Title" 5 years before.

The only thing that does somewhat interest me is hbk vs. hogan. I guess im just old school, but hell, im only 22.

Six years ago Chris Jericho debuted in the WWF and held his own on the microphone against The Rock. He could have been an insanely huge star, but WWF fucked it up. He has absolutely everything you need to be a World Champion except (thanks to the booking) credibility.

HBK, my hands down favorite wrestler of all time, never reached that level of fame for one simple reason................. he displayed his shlong in playgirl. it kind of destroyed his marketing credibility

Physically, i dont think so. He's small, yet not ripped, and pretty boring to watch inside the ring.

Well he never was ripped. BUT he is a wrestler (which is his profession), he knew moves not punch, punch, punch, throw the opponent against the rope, kick him in the face, wave to the fans, then dropkick.

I think you have the McMahon disease xxx. Where you guys believe that big strong steroid freaks should always be the champion even though they can't wrestle for shit. Look at Batista. Tripple H carried his sorry ass and now that he has been facing JBL he has been getting very sloppy.

^ I dont know, my opinion doesnt really count too much since im not much of a fan. The latest wrestler i liked a lot was HHH. He's the only one that i think believable grew as an entertainer. He was mostly used for european/IC titles back in the day, but developed into one of the best world champs. I know its similar to what Jericho, JBL, booker t, Guerrero has done, it just doesnt come accross as believable to me to see the likes of these guys world champs.
