We Lost to GREECE?!?

95-101

I will never understand, after the US shot 10-40 against Germany, that they STILL decided to shoot the 3 so fucking much. I actually saw 'Melo cutting uncontested to the basket TWICE, only to be passed up so Kirk Hinrich or Chris Paul can shoot a clunker from behind the arc.

No excuses, this was a horrible team, with a milquetoast coach. They didn't take any of these FIBA games seriously until two minutes left in this final game. Their answer to everything: Shoot the 3.

Obviously that didn't work, did it? Either scrap the team (coaching staff included, especially you, Mike D'Antoni) and start fresh for the next Olympics, or cut Paul, Hinrich, and Wade, and replace them with actual SHOOTERS. Shit, Jason Terry could've made a bigger contribution than all three of those guys in this tournament, even Chauncey Billups or Bruce Bowen (two of the last cuts from the team) could've fit in more.

And, I'm sorry, but people all over the ESPN boards are agreeing, Kobe Bryant would've been a huge difference maker. Yes, he is a streaky shooter, but he knows how to score, and he can shoot the three better than what was seen in this tourney, definitely.

God, this team blew! They beat Germany by 20, and they still looked horrid, good night.

Goddammit!.....

EDIT: Stats just came in, they shot a lovely 9-28 from 3-point land tonight, which brings their FIBA total to 71-199, or 36%. Why are they even taking 199 threes in the first place, it's not like Ray Allen or Peja is on this fucking team.

U.S.A. lost at the FIBA World Championship? Nothing new. Let's take a look at couple of last Championships:
1998 - defeated by Russia (finished 3rd)
2002 - defeated by Argentina, Serbia & Montenegro and Spain (finished 6th)
2006 - defeated by Greece (for now)

We were the champions at 1998 and 2002 :) but we sent terrible team on this tournament. Anyway, it's finally confirmed that (what anybody who follow internationl basketball knows) Americans lost their primate.

Dream team dream on!

Congrats to our brothers from Greece on this! After European title thay are ready for another crown... Follow the footsteps of your neighbours. :)
Btw, U.S.A. is placed better than 4 years ago when they were hosts.

They probably shoot a lot more three's cus the line is closer, pretyy much the same distance in the corners though, but whatever. Ill wait til the olympics to judge this team, I think they might try a lot harder then, plus Kobe.

Troublesome you are crazy saying the US "lost their primate".

Lebron and Wade were exposed in last nights game. The international refs werent calling any of their flopping. 90 percent of the time they get those calls in the NBA. They were completely taken out of their game. I thought it was hilarious. Carmelo Anthony is the only player that showed up. I think he had something like 29 points. This team seriously needed Kobe Bryant. It was still a close game with less than 3 minutes left. Team USA needed a closer like Kobe Bryant with the mentality of a killer in the clutch. We also needed an enforcer. Baby Shaq was taking Howard, Brand, and Bosh to school.

That big Black Greek player (I'm gonna call him Shaqidophilis) was killing us underneath, but Bosh and Brand were used a total of 17 minutes TOGETHER, and Brad Miller didn't even play at all. Usually in these FIBA games, we don't need an inside presence, but that guy was taking us to school all night long.

didn't help that we went 20-34 from FT, too. 59%? That's Tim Duncan FT%, for crying out loud!

Interesting note, not ONE of these Greek players in on an NBA roster.

Another note, Spain beat Argentina, which means we have to play Argentina for 3rd place. The way we're shooting, I don't give us a chance.

Just about every single person on tha team is in their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd years. Get some veterans. KG, Duncan, Kobe, AI, Paul Pierce, Vince Carter, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd. They probaly declined.

BTW, we F'ing suck.

The free throw percentage was horrible, Shaq thought is was atrocious. There was no defense in the game, we NEED a player who's #1 skill is playing defense. Bruce Bowen would have been great, but they cut him. When Kobe Bryant comes on to the team for the Olympics, I'm expecting some big things. I don't think we're going to steam roll over teams, but I expect improvement.

Its not walk in a park anymore for USA.European countries are catching up to them. They haven't won anything big long time now.

This roster was pretty good. They got exactly what they wanted. They took team, role players which was exactly what they needed but the result was not good. But you can't seat there and say well Kobe wasn't there and KG and them players. They had those players too last time, Duncan's and Iverson's but they lost.Yes they are different peoples but they are in same league and are just as good as next man.So its not a matter of who you take anymore, its just that other teams are just as good as they are.USA has to accept that and respect that.

Latvia can probably eliminate the USA. That's what happens when they live in their own bubble and under-estimate the Europeans.

not latvia ;)
lithuania
but not this time. wait till the next time.
this year we took 7th place. but that's only because there was only 4 or 5 players from the previous team that played in 2004 olympic games. considering that there are only 3 million people in lithuania.. we don't have such a big range of players to chose. btw do you guys remember 2000 olympics in australia, when jasikevicius had a 3 point attempt but missed in the last seconds.. that was the closest winning game for usa to that time. in 2004 we beated usa, like puetro rico and italia :)
times are changing.. this year even american team had some preparation, trainings for championship but seems like it was not enough. what you're missing is playing as a team. greece had no single player from nba in their team and yet they still won against usa. it's time to think why americans still call nba champions - nba world champions.

^^^ why do you need a few years when 10-15 years ago you double outscored almost every team? In 2008 China olympics no way you'll see gold medal.
