using cash makes you a Second-Class Citizen

Yesterday I was reminded of that fact not once but twice in my afternoon out.

First thing first, I went downtown and went to deposite money in the bank. There was a long slow moveing line waiting for one and a half tellers. finnaly some other workers came up and asked "if anyone was makeing a deposite and did not need cash back" I was makeing a Cash Deposite and needed no cash back, oh nope I did not qualify for the quick line! WTF is that?

then I went to see a Movie (Star Wars:Revenge of sith-Kicks arse BTW) afterwards I went into a Virgin Maga store to buy a great book
(http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...102-8092390-0557763?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

)

While in line two of the Cashiers said "I can take credit cards here" Assumeing the others where having a problem and that is why the line was long there I started to move towards them, he said "no cash only credit cards" second time same day I am like WTF?

The bank one I kind of understand can't have everyone takeing cash from people but the one at Virgin was a true mind fuck.

I then had to wait for one of the other cashiers that would accept good old green backs, I made a few comments out loud while waiting and when it was my turn I said to the Cahier "you accept good old greenbacks?" dumb fuck was stuned then he mumbled "I don't know are we in england" or something, I guess he did not know what Greenbacks where. his co-worker said "yes, yes" lol I think they felt my pain!

Fuck the System.

Oh and I guess I made this topic to illustrate how more and more you they are trying to give people incentive to use Credit cards rather then Cash.

not to mention the many things you are unable to do with good old cash, Such as rent a car,ETC...

are there any other Cash users out there or am I last of a dying breed?

anyone else have simular experiance where the seemingly "Convenance" of cash back fired?

I havent ever found that, usually it is the opposite here I reckon - credit card users are discriminated against... like at my work for example (a stadium) we have one ATM for 50,000 people and when you purchase tickets it is cash only. And a lot of shops and even some restaurants do not have credit card facilities... cash only.

I guess one annoying thing though was with the growth of internet shopping and all that, it was so much more difficult without a credit card, although they have moved to compensate for that now with alternatives.

Like Amara, I feel it is the opposite over here. Most people prefer to deal in cash. It's seen as quicker & has less baggage - some business really don't want to bother with receipts & stuff.

Our ATMs are always getting vandalised anyway & are out of order a lot so cash is a necessity.

Besides, I don't trust the rapid advancement of such things. As such, I only have one bank card - that's bank, not credit - & I don't even know the PIN number to that (that's how much I use it). I've never purchased anything online either. To be honest - & possibly sound really backwards - I don't even carry a wallet, when I travel my money stays snugly stuffed in my sock. :(

:D

I always pay in cash. I have a debit card, but I always withdraw money from a cash machine and pay in cash rather than paying with the card. I guess I just prefer having physical, tangible cash in my pocket.

Not that I'm against the whole credit-instead-of-cash movement.

It's something I do - & I'm not alone. I don't know how it works elsewhere, but in Glasgow a lot of people - mainly young men - keep their money in their sock. It's useful if you're playing football & don't want to leave your money in the dressing room or if you're just wearing shorts & are without pockets.

It's also quite pratical in my mind. I mean, someone can pick my pocket or pinch my wallet but I hardly see them sneaking off with my foot :D

And even if I was to be held up, pockets are checked but no mofo wants to get down on their hands & knees & search socks.

I know people who do that, but they mostly live in very underpriviliged areas and it's a neccessity. If you don't then there's really no need to take such extreme measures IMO.

Well, I wouldn't mind seeing what you define as "very underprivileged". You do know that Glasgow has one of the higher - if not the highest (I'm not completely sure of this so I won't make assumptions) - poverty rate of the major cities in Britain? We're constantly coming at the worst end of health, housing, income & crime surveys. In other words, Glasgow as a whole is underprivileged - bar a few, affluent areas. Not trying to make Glasgow sound like a bad place to live - because it's not necessarily - but the reality of the situation is that, for me & many others, keeping our cash in our sock is seen as smart thinking, if not a necessity.

Then I guess I'm glad I don't live where you do. If you were seen keeping money in your socks over here you'd either be thought of as a drug dealer or a bit disturbed :)

To be fair, drug dealers & nutcases do make up a sizeable portion of Glasgow's population - male & female :)

kind of surprise me there Kenny!

I also will never have a Credit Card I hate the whole concept of credit.

That is what got under my skin about all this, so many things are set up to push you towards the Credit world, and to me that is a problem. Shit I don't know how much my check will be next week let alone 5 years from now. so I live below my means and buy what I can currently afford.

I am thinking of converting to Islam just for the mear fact they do not believe in "Interest". lol

and to the hommie CalcuoCuchicheo, I also used to carry money in my sock, back when I would walk around with alot of dough I would have it a few places so no one would get it all if they where watching me,

I would have like $100 in my wallet, $500 in other pockets, and more in my sock

I don't like credit unless absolutely necessary. It's an easy first step towards debt. I prefer to pay as I go.

As you can tell, I am obviously a Democrat and not a Republican :p
