Underated Player

Well for one, he's in a small market town that doesn't ever win shit, so apparently it's just statistics. Second, wasn't he mentioned in the whole steroids scandal shit? If he wins a ring before he retires, he'll get his credit. Cal Ripken Jr. had to break a record before he was really nationally respected. That's what it takes from a small market. If he gets a ring or a sole record, he'll get more dap.

palmero has never been the best player on his own team though

and isnt it odd how Palmero's stats really took off when he became teammates with Jose Canseco? :D

^ I like those lists, but Pete Rose isn't overrated - he's overhyped. People don't exaggerate how good he was, but you hear about him more than you should because of the gambling thing. The extra attention is unrelated to baseball.

Derek Jeter is the most overrated player in the game right now by the way.

And Palmeiro isn't underrated, he's unsung. Anyone who talks about him says he's a first ballot hall of famer. How is he being underrated then?

I'd say Beltran is the most over-rated in the game right now, although jeter is over-rated

Nolan Ryan over-rated??? hmm... what about the 383 strike out year.. or his record setting 7 no hitters???
his career was what, 26 years long?

his ERA+ of 112 for his career is absolutely pathetic compared to the other all-time greats

his career high ERA+ was in a season where he only played 21 games. his career high ERA+ in a full season is 142, a piss-poor peak number compared to others

his career win % is only .526, thats not very great. considering hes been on some good teams over the years, that should be better.

dont get me started on how he compares to the likes of Walter Johnson, Roger Clemens, or even a less popular star like Tom Seaver.

It doesnt matter how many strikeouts you get if you still lose 16 games that same year

edit: i forgot to mention his lack of a Cy Young award despite 27 years of pitching

Nolan Ryan Statistics

Career WHIP - 1.2473 (Not even top 100 among pitchers with a minimum of 1,000 IP, 3,000 PA, and 100 decisions... #100 is Al Spalding with 1.1855, still much better than Ryan... many view WHIP as the most important statistic because it shows the ability of the pitcher to get outs and keep runners off the bases)

Strikeout to Walk Ratio - 2.044 (Good, but again not great, and certainly not top notch. Notable pitchers ahead of him: Pedro Astacio, Glendon Rusch, Rheal Cormier, Eric Milton, Matt Morris, Kevin Millwood, Jose Lima)

Also, he is nowhere to be found in the top ranks of the adjusted ERA+, yet other greats such as Pedro Martinez, Lefty Grove, Walter Johnson, Joe Wood, Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens, Greg Maddux, Cy Young, Christy Matthewson, Whitey Ford, Sandy Koufax, and Curt Schilling are all near the top.

Derek Jeter, TERRIBLY OVERRATED. That one play where he was running for the ball and caught it going face first into the stands, was such an overrated play it was ridiculous. Watch Sportcenter top 10 plays and you'll see people doing that every week. there are way better plays that don't get the same recognition.

how many went to the hospital? the fact he fucked his face up, unlike most others, is what makes it an amazing play

no that was Matt Williams

in 94 Tony Gwynn was hitting .394, close to .400

Gwynn was never a home run hitter, his high in a season was 17. he was a hitter for average, his .339 career BA is the highest in recent history
