Twelve top stars form the list of nominees for the UEFA Club Football Awards, which will be presented during the UEFA Champions League group stage draw to be held in Monaco on Thursday 24 August at 18.00CET.

Brilliant displays
The list was announced by UEFA on Monday, and features players who set the UEFA Champions League alight with their brilliant and consistent displays last season. There are four award categories: UEFA Club Goalkeeper, Club Defender, Club Midfielder and Club Forward of the Year.

Voting panel
The newly-established voting procedure gives a selected number of experts, consisting of the coaches of the 16 teams that reached the knockout phase of the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League, and the members of the UEFA Technical Study Group the possibility to cast their votes.

The short list of nominees is as follows:

UEFA Club Goalkeeper of the Year:
Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus)
Grégory Coupet (Olympique Lyonnais)
Jens Lehmann (Arsenal FC)

UEFA Club Defender of the Year:
Fabio Cannavaro (Juventus)
Emmanuel Eboué (Arsenal FC)
Carles Puyol (FC Barcelona)

UEFA Club Midfielder of the Year:
Deco (FC Barcelona)
Juninho Pernambucano (Olympique Lyonnais)
Juan Román Riquelme (Villarreal CF)

UEFA Club Forward of the Year:
Samuel Eto'o (FC Barcelona)
Thierry Henry (Arsenal FC)
Ronaldinho (FC Barcelona)

Club Footballer award
The UEFA Club Footballer of the Year 2006 - formerly known as the Most Valuable Player - is elected by the 16 coaches only, from the above pool of 12 nominees.

Most Valuable Player award
The Most Valuable Player of the 2005/06 UEFA Cup will be given an award during the UEFA Cup draw to take place in Monaco on 25 August at 13.00CET. For this accolade, only the eight coaches of last season's UEFA Cup quarter-finalists give their vote. Four nominees are in contention: Daniel Alves (Sevilla FC), Enzo Maresca (Sevilla FC), Javier Saviola (Sevilla FC) and Mark Viduka (Middlesbrough FC).

Goalkeeper of the Year: Buffon.
Defender of the Year: Cannavaro.
Midfielder of the Year: Deco
Forward of the Year: Eto'o

Couldn't have asked for better awards.Although i might've choose Ronaldinho over Eto'o.Two clubs Juve and Barca,i've been fan of.Things are just continuing to be great for me.

For other news,i don't know if you posted new thread about Europe 2008 and newly made qualification groups. But i received news the other day.Georgia is in group with Italy,France,Ukraine,Scotland,Lithuania, and Faroe Islands. While there is no doubt we won't make out alive.I'm happy we're playing Italy and might be able to see the game if i be home.God damn, they might as well give us Netherlands,Spain,England and Germany and it would be entertaining. We have a new coach, guy who led Bayer 04 Leverkusen to the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2001/02,Klaus Toppmöller. On top of that we elected new football president who a lot of people wanted and say knows a lot and is good and might change things around.Hopefully things will change around.

GK: Lehmann - Due to fact he conceded 1 goal i think or none?

Def: Puyol - was impressive and the captain of the winning side should be aknowledged.

Mid: Riquelme - bar the match at Highbury he was instrumental in Villereal's shock run to the Semi Finals (though he missed that penalty

Str: Eto'o - Scored one of the goals of the CL vs Panathoniaks and also scored in the final.

Lehman, didn't concede a goal in the Champs league for god knows how many games. The other two can't compare their seasons with JL's.

Puyol, captained his team to the trophy, and considering Barca's defence without him, that's pretty impressive. Cannavaro won nothing at club level, admittedly he did perform at the World Cup.

Riquelme, pretty much took small town club Villareal to Champs league semi's and it would've been the final if he popped in that pen (which Lehman saved).

Thierry Henry, played upfront on his own all through the Champs League and did a fantastic job. Ronnie went off the boil IMO towards the end, Eto'o deserves recognition whatever.

I think that these people deserve the awards but I think that coaches will choose Henry or Ronaldinho for Club Footballer award.

Why would Buffon win the award lol? Juve didnt even reach the Semi finals, Valdez shouldve been nominated he also kept alot of clean sheets.

Henry vs Ronaldinho stats wise, Ronaldinho was way ahead, but both didn't perform in the final.

Eto'o did

So Eto'o deserves it.

And you cant look over Riquelme in the midfield.
