OK, the idea behind this is that a new generic top-level domain (gTLD) is set up and used by porn sites. So instead of .com, porn sites would end in .xxx. It would be voluntary, at least initially.

The argument for it is that it would be easier for people to stop children from viewing explicit material, because it would be easy to just block all sites on that domain. It would also make it easier for people who don't want to see porn to avoid it.

Good idea or bad idea? Would it even work?

Well i think it's a wonderful idea only thing is who's going to be policing this? What about all the porn sites that have a .com already... how much will it cost? who will pay for it? who will ensure that all porn sites use a .xxx in the us and internationally?

If the industry got behind it it would definitely work. The question is, will they actually get behind it? You have to remember, the people running these sites don't care who clicks on their site, as long as they get the hits. This would take away from that substantially. Does the porn industry actually have the morals to do something about this? That question remains unanswered

theres gonna be a problem making it complusery, but it's a nice idea in thoery. The question is tho...will it just be restricted to pron...or will we end up with 100's of top levle domains for categories?

this is not a new idea,it's been discussed and talked about to hell.

my opinion is that it will never work.stuff like this has never worked in the past.nobody wants anything other than a .com. We already have ,.biz,.info,.tv, and you'd think these would be used alot.How come there isnt apple.biz? or walmart.biz? or hacking.info? these are mostly used by amateurs. Most porn sites will not switch over.Maybe they will also secure their .xxx domain and redirect it back to the .com.

The problem is, how do you decide what belongs on .xxx and what doesn't? If StreetHop had an Porn forum, would it be forced to move to a .xxx?
