Why do people always say that? If they REALLY thought about it, we're living in the best time period ever in human history, lets look at the facts...
Polio, Cholera, hepatitis a, yellow fever, mumps, rubella, measles, smallpox and many other diseases either have vaccines or are completly wiped out now
Women rights and human rights, freedom of religion and free press. Hundreds of years ago questioning the church would have gotten you executed.
Better living conditions and medical knowledge. Just think that 100 years ago millions of people died of diabetes, 1 in 20 women died during child birth, thousands died daily from plague, slavery was acceptable widely.
Fruits and other foods can be bought fresh throughout the seasons, just think that during winters there were no fruits, other foods would either be salted or dried, if the foodstocks were spoiled people starved to death.
War deaths are huge. Only listing 3 wars
Civil War - 700,000 deaths
World War 1 - 59,600,000 deaths (both sides combined)
World War 2 - 61,580,000 deaths (both sides combined)
173,465,000 deaths in 3 wars, millions more died from other wars during those times. There have been less wars in the world today from 10 years ago, more accurate weapons and better tactics cause less civilian deaths. No modern war has come close to the world wars. There will be a Canadian tv show that recreates news programs during WW2 but it will look like it was in modern times, it will be very interesting.
This discussion started first day of college, we had a guest speaker named Rick Green (plays Bill and directs the show The Red and Green Show, wrote and directed history channels History Bites, pitched the idea of the news program during ww2 recreated). While telling us the show idea he described what WW2 was like, his father fought then and said that the news programs were like having WTC happen everyday for 6 years. Is today really worse then 60 years ago?
