This is the thread for people looking to purchase an mp3 player. We get a lot of them, so I thought I'd make one big thread. You can recommend individual players or respond to peoples requests. If you're looking for a player, please take a look at the simple guide below;

You need to let us know a few things before we can recommend you an mp3 player;

1: Capacity.
The higher the capacity, the more songs you can fit on there. How much you need depends on what you're going to use it for. Below is a very rough guide. Size of a song depends on the quality; reducing the quality will let you store more songs.

128mb - 30
256mb - 60
512mb - 120
1gb - 250
4gb - 1,000
5gb - 1,250
20gb - 5,000
30gb - 7,500
40gb - 10,000
60gb - 15,000

2: Price. Maximum, minimum. The more you're willing to spend, the higher the capacity and the more features (photo, video etc.)

3: Features. They'll all play music, but do you want to use it to view photos? Watch videos? Listen to the radio? Specify essential and/or desired features so we can specify a player that's right for you.[/quote]

Hi. I own a Sony Net MD (A PIECE OF SHIT) that lately began to break down. Instead of getting mad & hanging my self for buying it for almost $200, 3 years ago, I decided to buy an I Pod (or a device that is similar to an I Pod with large storing capacity) in this upcoming Boxing Day. Thing is, I don't know much about this kinda stuff, so I was wondering if you folks could help.

What im looking for is a device that can store 20GB of music (Videos, Internet, Pics I don't care about that crap, I will only be using it to listen to music). I have a Windows XP. The reason why I say that is because most of the I Pods i saw were called "I Pods Apple" and since I am ignorant in this field, the first thing I thought is that they can only be used if you have Apple :/. I also saw that there are many different versions of I Pods, like Nano, Mini & what not, can somebody please tell me what is the difference between all the different I Pods. I was also wondering if there are any kind of glitches or problems with I Pods (I have a Net MD, so trust me, Im sick of hardware with glitches & problems).

And lastly, would you even recommend an I Pod? or do you have any kind of other hardware in mind which is better.

Sorry for the essay, lol. So to summaries, what I want to know is:

1. I am looking for a device with a large storing capacity (20GB) for my music collection. I will only be using it for music, so I don't really need it for any kind of other stuff. What kind of device would you recommend?

2. If you recommend an I Pod, could you please tell me which? Apple, Mini etc. (same goes if you recommend something else, since i assume it too has different versions of it)

3. Does the device have any kind of problems or glitches?

i reckon ur betta looking for a creative or sum other 20gb music player cuz u paying more just becuase its an IPOD but ive had mine for i think 2years now and its had problems but the warranty has sorted it, but dont buy one unless u want an "IPOD" :thumb:

you are always going to find people that say "i pods suck" " get the ipod killer" whatever.

i have had an ipod for like 2 years, it's a generation 3. you dont need to have an mac, or apple, computer to use ipod.

i would say, fuck the nano. i have heard about some minor problems with it.

i would recomend the new 30g video ipod. its awesome. one of my instructors at school has one and was showing me the video on it. its great. i would say get the black one. just because of the whole black doesnt reflect light or whatever.
