I cant believe I havent seen ANYTHING about this on the news.

The Deepwater Horizon oil rig broke a pipe and is spewing a 100,000 barrels of oil into the sea per day into the Gulf of Mexico since April 22nd.

This threatens to wipe out all life in the whole ocean if it isnt stopped.

And they dont know how to stop it!

BP is fucking stupid. I worked for them and they had oil spills all the damn time.

Ever since the CEO quit and they hired some dude, he fucked up all the procedures from cutting high priced engineers (who were saying shit was wrong with the pipes) hired new ones and in result, it got a huge oil spill.

I dunno who their CEO is now, but I can't be surprised that it was them anymore. Such a shitty company that had/has so much potential to do more.

Well, it won't wipe out all ocean life, lol. It'll definitely have a big environmental impact of course. The spill might eventually rival that of the Exxon Valdez from '89.

The rig sank and they're now trying to shut down the well. Which is not going so well.

Pre-spill precautions

In February 2009, BP filed a 52-page exploration and environmental impact plan with the federal Minerals Management Service for the Deepwater Horizon well. The plan stated that it was "unlikely that an accidental surface or subsurface oil spill would occur from the proposed activities", and that "due to the distance to shore (48 miles) and the response capabilities that would be implemented, no significant adverse impacts are expected".[30]
The BP well did not have any remote-control or acoustically-activated shut-off switch for use in case of an emergency such as the rig sinking. The countries of Norway and Brazil require them on all offshore rigs, but oil companies persuaded U.S. regulators that such backup devices were unnecessary.

Ooh, the irony.

Yeah, I've been hearing about this, yet everyone acts like it's no big deal, hardly on the news. People are shit seriously, this is impact the environment, the wildlife, etc .. but people are more preoccupied with other useless trash.

Bah...

Eh, so far it's only fucking up the northern Gulf which is, well, American.

Let's just hope it gets under control instead of trying to put the blame on something. It's still an accident.

Maybe they aren't making a big deal out of it because they don't want people to 1. Freak out 2. Protest 3. Ask questions 4.Go to the media etc

IDK just speculating... It's been on the news here but not a lot.

Palin on the topic:
"even with the strictest oversight in the world, accidents still happen. No human endeavor is ever without risk -- whether it's sending a man to the moon or extracting the necessary resources to fuel our civilization.

I repeat the slogan 'drill here, drill now' not out of naivete or disregard for the tragic consequences of oil spills.... I continue to believe in it because increased domestic oil production will make us a more secure, prosperous, and peaceful nation."

Nalco is now trying to help in the clean-up.

Fuck Palin, the technology to use cleaner forms of fuels that are renewable are out there, but shit ... Why stop something that brings in billions of dollars for something that may actually be good for the world, instead of burning fucking fossil fuels.

Bah humbug I say... BAH HUMBUG.

There are way better, cheaper, cleaner technologies that would cripple some economy tamdamdam.

There were even debates how to charge people for using 100% electric engines or air engines which cost less than 1$ to fully "load".
Because can you charge extra taxes for using a cleaner car?
Some companies were finally refused to build these cars in the end. I liked the idea of "air" cars the most which are even cleaner than electric cars and are already working good.

However Renault managed to somehow do it - their electric cars are coming out in 2011 and.. you will have to pay a monthly fee to use them (after paying full price for the car itself).
They call it "a fee for using the battery".

Now they are estimating that it may take 60-90 days to clean up.. but Hurricane season begins June 1... so the oil spill may not be taken care of at all if they can't get it done by the end of the month.

It's been all over the place in the US media.

In related, the Chinese spill in the Great Barrier Reef wasn't reported extensively in the US. Maybe that wasn't a big deal, who knows. I was just making my "pot calling the kettle black" speech right when it happened. The timing was so good that I figured the tinfoil hats would start claiming Chinese submarine theory.

I'm more pissed off at the Japanese media failing to give the Time Square story any time. They are so busy trying to kick the US of A off Okinawa that any kind of "fear" would get in the way. heh

It's called Heiwa-boke (Peace Fool) - Some Japanese think that the country is so wonderful because they don't fight wars, and of course the Okinawa rally looks like a fucking rock concert. Go figure.

I think it's funny that the offshore drilling ban for the US gets overturned a couple years back then this happens.
