The Champions League or The World Cup?

#1
Jose Mourinho, as well as other managers, have said that the Champions League has more quality than the World Cup.

Agree or disagree?

If you compare the last winners of the two competitions, surely the World Cup come out on top? Would anyone bet on Liverpool to beat Brazil?

How can you compare the WC to CL? It's like The World VS. Belgium. lol

The WC brings the best out of players and the fans. The intensity is much greater due to pride of one's nationality.

Many other reasons contribute to why the WC is more intense and has more quality than the CL.

CL is still very entertaining to watch though.

I disagree.
You can buy your way to the Champions League, the World Cup is just National talent against National talent. The World Cup is the most exciting sporting event in the world and the fact that you get to watch two or three matches every day just adds to show how great it is.

Yeah that was'nt the question though, the question was which has more quality.

Surely, then, the CL has more quality? National teams are limited in regards to the players they can select. Whereas players like Eto'o and Shevchenko won't do particularly well in the World Cup because of the national teams they play for, they could win the Champs League because they play for quality teams.

Put simply, the Champion's League can feature the absolute best players on the planet, regardless of where they come from. The World Cup cannot.

The CL can feature them theoretically, but in practice, no. Plus, a nation which has a lot of great players can draw upon all of them. That makes it hard for the "weaker" nations but a ball for the strong football countries.

I think thats hitting the nail on the head. In the WC, stakes are higher. Pride is more important, national feeling. It's just more intense.

And besides that, Illuminattile made a good point in his first post. Who'd think Liverpool to beat Brazil in a 1 on 1 match, eh?

In reality though, there are very few of the world class players that don't feature in the world cup. Plus if we include the qualifying stages there are many more more teams that feature in the World Cup than in the CL's thus increasing the amount of good players featuring.

Let's quantify this;

Do you think the 2006 World Cup Final will be better than the 2006 Champion's League Final?

Based on the current odds from SkyBet, the matches would be:

Argentina vs. Brazil and Chelsea vs. Barcelona.

Argentina vs. Brazil = much better. Sorry, but imo Brazil alone owns any other non-national team out there.
