The Misconception:When your beliefs are challenged with facts, you alter your opinions and incorporate the new information into your thinking.
The Truth: When your deepest convictions are challenged by contradictory evidence, your beliefs get stronger.

Evidence: Every discussion ever on Streethop.

Also, I find it extremely ironic that you of all people posted this. If you don't know why, then the article failed you. lol

I can see why you'd say that, but the backfire effect largely doesn't apply to me. Perhaps in the context of an online message board and the people on it, but certainly not IRL. If your point was that what I say is futile at convincing others, then you assume I don't understand that. But it doesn't always apply. It applies only to the people participating in the discussion. The private messages I have received from the silent observers thanking me for bringing facts to the table because they were "on the fence" (ie, having not already picked a side) are the reason I continue.

Also I have yet to see a single "contradictory fact" within our discussions of religion. That is largely the point. So to with veganism - every so called fact presented by pro-carnivores has been thoroughly debunked by experts in the field.
