Team Handball

I'm on the team here at UNC and just had a tournament this past weekend. Been pretty hyped about it recently. I was just wondering how many of y'all (especially in Europe) follow the sport. I know France won some sort of championship this year and a friend of mine who spent time in Spain said it was huge there.

What'd ya like about the sport? Which are some of the better teams/players? Just looking for general discussion about the sport with it not being too popular here in the U.S.

Oh, and I don't know if y'all know any of the better American players, but I played against Darrick Heath, Gary Hines, Bobby Dunn, Danny Hennessey, and Matt Van Houton this weekend. They all are or were national team players. Pretty crazy to me that I had to go up against some of these players.

i think handball is a pretty cool sport because it is a very physical sport and its very entertaining to watch on TV.

france won the european championship this year (beat spain in the final). spain and france are currently the best national teams worldwide.

the german is league is known as the best in the world. most top players play for german clubs ( THW Kiel being the most famous/successful club). Barcelona is probably the most successful club in europe (they won the champions league last year). Nikola Karabatic for example is one of the best players (THW Kiel).

nice to hear you played against some of the american player who belong to the national team but the usa team is nowhere near world-class.

Oh yeah, I definitely know the U.S. isn't even near the level of most all the European countries, but some of our players are damn good nonetheless, especially Darrick. I'd like to see some European matches one of these days. Hopefully I'll get to study abroad in Europe somewhere and get into it a little bit. How are the English/Italian teams (just wondering because those are my top two choices for places to study abroad, Spain being up there as well)?

Sounds Serbian to me. :)

The Serbian team is/was one of the best handball teams. It's played a lot in Serbia. I think it's an awesome sport, I just never got down to playing it. However, it's nice to see an American take interest in it.

spain would be the best choice (handball wise) because they have the second best league in the world.
