Summer Transfer Activity

#1
The transfer window comes to a close in a little over a week, so I thought I'd start a thread discussing the transfers so far and any possible transfers before September 1st.

Which clubs do you think have been the most savvy this summer? Which clubs have snapped up bargains, which clubs have wasted their cash? Which signings will succeed and which will flop?

I'm a United fan and, personally, I think Fergie's been very wise this summer. EVDS will, I'm confident, be the man to finally break out of Peter Schmeichel's shadow, and I'm sure he'll get us some points this season. Park looks very lively and will push Giggs and Ronaldo for places, which is exactly what we needed. We needed a keeper and a winger and we got them. The best thing about both signings is that they didn't break the bank. Fergie wasted money on the likes of Forlan, Veron and Kleberson and he seems to have learned his lesson. Maybe it's the presence of the Glazers, in which case it would be the only positive of them taking over the club.

Fergie also got rid of some wage-eaters like Kleberson and Phil Neville who were deadweight.

United still need a central midfielder (finger crossed we get Ballack next year) but the squad looks stronger now than last year. Could still do with some more depth, though. I'd still like us to sign Michael Owen, especially with Louis "Mr. Glass" Saha unavailable. Real Madrid have signed United target Cicinho, but I can't say I'm too bothered. A right back isn't a priority, especially for the money we would have had to pay.

I think Bolton signing Jared Borgetti was a good move. I never imagine him playing somewhere else but Mexico. watch him get in some quality goals. He's the only Mexican now with the most international goals in history, and more goals in this world cup qualifying road.

Owen is a no no for United in my eyes. We already have two world-class strikers and two half decent strikers (one if you count Smith as midfielder), and we also have super sub Soljskaer regaining his fitness just around the corner. At united Owen would just be a bench warmer and he deserves first team football.

Spurs getting Davids.. I never thought I'd see the day.

D.Bent joining Charlton looks good.

Arsenal need a player to replace Veira, as good as Fabregas and Flamini are they are not the leader type role that Arsenal are desperate for.

Batista snubbing them was a big blow, Batista is a great player and will probably become one of the best players this season in Madrid.

I think that's the (only) reason he's considering joining Newcastle.

I agree that he probably wouldn't get first team football every game, especially with the 4-3-3 formation United are using now. Plus, in addition to Saha and Solskjaer, United have starlet Guiseppe Rossi. Hopefully he'll get a chance to shine this season.

never..hopefully :(

i think Juventus should be pretty strong with Viera.

not sure about Madrid but i dont think they will be that good this season. even with Robinhio and Baptista.

Barcelona wil be as good as last year.

Milan...well, they lost Crespo but got Gillardino..still a strong team.

Chelsea will come in first in england again, in my opinion. then ManU...

Munich will win the national title again. they bought a very good defender so i hope they will make it at least to the CL semi-final

We've signed a bunch of old has beens looking for a last payday. Meggo's 'super defence' is shite, and he failed to address our most serious of problems, our lack of a striker with any talent whatsoever. On the bright side we've played ok in the performances i've seen...played all the teams of the park, but not created any chances. A striker and a creative midifleder and we'll walk the league.

Fair assesment. However United are looking much better this year, safer at the back and more potent up front. IMO it could go either way.

yea summit like 4 in 3 for watford, but megson just falls out with everyone and loans/sells them. Which is strange considering his reputation as Mr. Motivator.
