Yes, Ruth was limited to playing against whites/indians/light skinned latinos.
However, you forgot to mention Ruth also didn't play in a league filled with watered down relievers, smaller strike zones, smaller ballparks, body armer, steroids, airplanes and video tapes.

The last record I found myself cheering for was Ichiros (although I'm still man enough to admit Ichiro's is watered down due to his at-bats)
With respect to Ruth, there were NO, players juiced up whileas the pitchers in this era no-one has been caught or they look like they have been taking steriods. Taking steriods makes you're arms bigger so you're pitching style will change. Also it is very easy to get hurt while on steriods ala Bonds. Just think for once, why would a pitcher take steriods other than to make their arms look like popeye and maybe make their pitch faster (not proven).
