NEW YORK (AP) -- New York Knicks guard Stephon Marbury defended Michael Vick, calling dogfighting a sport and comparing it to hunting.

Marbury spoke Monday about the federal dogfighting conspiracy charges against Vick while promoting his basketball shoe in Albany, N.Y.

"I think it's tough," Marbury said, according to Albany TV station Capital News 9. "I think, you know, we don't say anything about people who shoot deer or shoot other animals. You know, from what I hear, dogfighting is a sport. It's just behind closed doors."

On Monday, Vick said through a lawyer that he will plead guilty to a federal charge of conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and conspiracy to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture. He also faces possible prosecution in Virginia.

"I think it's tough that we build Michael Vick up and then we break him down," Marbury said. "I think he's one of the superb athletes, and he's a good human being. I just think that he fell into a bad situation."

The whole time this has been going on I've been thinkin about Ancient Rome and how they did the same thing in the Colosseum but with Humans, and that is something that is taught in history and celebrated, sort of. But thats just nit picking. Truthfully I think dog fighting is a cultural thing that some just dont understand. I dont agree with it but I also dont agree with tribes who are cannibals but have been doin it for hundreds of years. Some things are just accepted in certain areas or to certain people. It's not an excuse I would advise him to use but it is a way of me understanding why he would do this.

I do think people are overreacting though. Ban him for life, I'm boycotting the Falcons and Vick and whatever team he has ever played for, as someone our kids look up to he should be in jail for 10 years, just random shit I've been readin from people on ESPN and other sites. Vick is in trouble for fighting dogs, that is all. His fame, salary and place in our society should have no factor in anything. To say if the NFL allows him to play again it would be saying they allow dog fighting and its something our kids would look up to is fucking stupid.

^lol didnt even think of that, that would be fucking crazy.

Considering Lohan only got a day in jail I'm thinkin Vick should get 36 hours.
