Technology Sony Fucks Over Europeans/Aussies

With the PS3's European launch finally approaching (but still a month away), our friends in Europe and Australia are finally close to Sony's next generation. But this eager anticipation may take a downward spin with the latest news from Sony.

Striving to cut costs, Sony has announced that the European PS3's backward compatibility will be far more limited than the North American and Japanese versions. Only a "limited range" of PlayStation 2 titles will play on the European PS3, while a "broad range" of original PlayStation titles will function. A short list of compatible games will be available at launch, and the list will be expanded as Sony gets around to it. Specifically, the PS3 will not ship with the Emotion Engine chip, which was essentially the CPU for the PS2.

Sony intends to focus on software emulation as a cheaper solution to providing backwards compatibility to European gamers.

Luckily I wasn't planning on buying one anyway.

It baffles me why anyone would buy thjis when you can buy a more powerful PC for around the same price. I just want to play games on my console,i dont want a hard drive and i have no use for this blu ray drive at the moment.

I might buy the Wii or the Xbox 360 in the summer though as well as a new PC.

I was checking out the packages they will be selling today, not cos i was gonna get one but just out of curiosity. Man the games suck on launch, nothing i would want personally anyway. Did anyone else hear something about the 360 fight night still looking better than the ps3 version?

^We wont see anything true to waht the ps3 does til a year or so. When developers catch up, or take the time to use what they can.

That does suck though. Most people use emulations to play old game anyway so it might work out also.

i was planning on waiting out the 360 and get the ps3 no matter how much bad shit i heard about it. that was three months ago. by now i'm ready to say fuck the ps3 and get a 360. maybe in two years i'll buy a ps3, when the prices have dropped. for now, im gonna invest $100 in a new slim ps2.

hmm, it seems that it might be the Wii and the 360 competing this time around... nintendo sat one round out but now it's comin out swinging... guess i was wrong...

and im not a sony fanboy, but i did think the ps2 was the best system in a long time.. but not because of the brand.... im pretty pissed at the ps3 though... it's got a gamecube-esque launch...if not worse than that... and is just retardedly expensive... dunno what sony was thinking...
