Sinner?

I've never really read the bible but I got a question with it.

From my understanding one cannot sleep with someone married unless they were the one that is married correct?

What if one gets divorced and someone else marries her. Would that still count as sinning? I mean, people get married in front of god, but don't divorce in front of god...so wouldn't that be technically a sin?

Can someone go in depth with what is/isn't a sin?

I.E Manslaughter? etc...

Back then divorce didn't exist. So you go figure.

I'd say you are a sinner if you are unfaithful to the one you are committed to. So if you divorced the person and sleep with someone else, you are not a sinner.

According to Catholic religion, marriage is a promise to God. Catholics do not believe in divorce unless there is a case of infidelity. You are to simply put up with it and work to resolve your issues. So if a couple gets married and then divorced for reasons other than infidelity, those people are supposedly "sinning" in the eyes of God unless they receive some kind of pardon from the pope.

Basically, a sin is like a "crime," only it transcends legal definitions and embraces moral ones as well.

yeah basically you can only have one wife and you cannot have sex with anyone else. If you don't have a wife then you can't have sex. If your wife breaks her promise that's a different story. She commits a sin and you're sort of free. However back in the days there was no divorce.

See that's what I dislike about religion in general, it doesn't adapt to new societies. How do you apply this concept of sinner to a world where divorce rates are high? Where most of us had premarital sex? Are we all sinners?
