The situation in the North seems to be deteriorating daily :(

Sinn Fein sanctioned IRA bank raid

DUBLIN, Ireland, Feb. 11 : Senior members of Sinn Fein sanctioned the IRA's multi-million dollar bank raid in December, the Independent Monitoring Commission reports.

While the report did not name individuals, it concluded senior figures from the IRA's political wing had to share responsibility for the crime.

The robbery at the Northern Bank in Belfast netted more than $47 million dollars, none of which has been recovered.

Sinn Fein, the report said, could not be regarded as committed to non-violence while links to the IRA remained.

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams reacted angrily to the findings, saying Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern had "crossed a line" by accusing him of conspiracy to rob.

Prospects for a power-sharing deal in Northern Ireland now look grim, with Democratic Unionists calling for the arrest of Sinn Fein leaders.

The IRA denies members were behind the robbery and last week withdrew its offer of permanent disarmament because of the accusations.

its gonna be messed up until nationalists become a majority, according to demographics that will be around 2014 i think. nationalists become a mojority in stormount and a referendum is called for and a united Ireland is created.

as far as things until then, DUP will continue to be childish, and the unionists will love it.
Sinn fein will not cut links wit the IRA who will continue their "criminal" actions, and the nationalists wont care about bank robberies.

There will never be total peace its all bout money , religion is the cover up for the greed of the participants .
Clarify something for me if you will. Do you mean that you believe the IRA are currently about money? If you mean this tell me, if not, inform me as to what you really meant...

To a certain extent he makes a valid point. While the IRA have been on ceasefire they have been engaged in a number of illegal activites, this bankraid being the most noticable and shocking example of them. IRA commanders, especially in South Armagh, are making massive profits in huge smuggling operations across the border while posing as fighting for "Irish freedom". In my opinion the whole thing stinks to high heaven.

My post was to try & find out what his 'point' was exactly as his post was rather vague.

And so what if they robbed 25 million in a bank robbery! It's against the law JL that's what's wrong. You and I both know the IRA are finished as a fighting force, people like Slab Murphy are simply exploiting the IRA's resources for their own benefit. Criminality is rampant in the Republican movement yet people like Adams and McGuiness just keep pretending it isn't happening. I found Adams' last comment on the subject amusing, "No one can be a Republican and at the same time be engaged in criminality" Sure Gerry  It's people like Mark Durkan and the SDLP who actually get things done for the nationalist community in the North yet receive little recognition in return. In my opinion Sinn Fein and the IRA are spent forces.
