Scott Steiner In Talks With TNA, Stone Cold At Wrestlemania

15 years later, WWE back on NBC

March 5, 2006

BY BLACKJACK BROWN

On March 18, WWE makes its return to network TV when "Saturday Night's Main Event'' airs on NBC for the first time since 1991. An incredibly successful fill-in for "Saturday Night Live,'' the show reached its pinnacle in February 1988 when a WrestleMania III rematch between Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant drew a 15.2 national Nielsen rating. This "Main Event'' will feature all five men who will compete in the two WrestleMania main events, along with Shane McMahon against Shawn Michaels in a street fight. In the big 3-on-2 tag match, John Cena teams with Triple H to face Rey Mysterio, Kurt Angle and Randy Orton. Don't be shocked to see Steve Austin set up some kind of appearance at Mania.

AROUND THE RING: Look for Jim Ross to be back on TV before WrestleMania. ... Linda McMahon congratulated Stacy Keibler on her third-place finish on "Dancing With the Stars'' but conceded WWE does not have plans to bring her back at this point. ... TNA Wrestling has been in talks with Scott Steiner, who could debut before May.

Stone Cold as a Special guest referee for the Cena/HHH match is a possiblity.

Where in the hell is the Rock? ive been reading he has some free time he's not shooting any movies. I would like to see him wrestle maybe him an Hogan one more time. I know Rock wanted to wrestle Bret but they cant do that with Bret's condition.

Defintely looking forward to Saturday Nights Main Event.

there was a story that said they contacted the rock to do a match with hbk to sorta bring back the "corporate rock" wit the current hbk/vince feud that they have going on now ...but the rock turned it down seein as how hbk acted like an ass a while back when the rocks dad wanted hbk to do something wrestling related for him...so i dunno if hes gonna show up at mania this year...the rock is too strung up on hollywood...

but i do find it really weird that hes got alotta free time in time for wrestlemania...i hope he does show up tho

Hopefully Rock will show up and do a little something with Carlito, that could be hilarious. Let Carlito give him the Apple Shot, then lay him out with a Rock Bottom.

So tell me if I'm right. In a little less than 2 weeks, instead of SNL being on from 11:30-1:00 AM on Saturday, WWE is gonna have a pay per view type event on?

I dunno about replacing SNL, since I'm not American, but on March 14th WWE will show a 'supercard' featuring big, PPV-level main events. I believe it will be biannual (twice a year, as opposed to biennial, meaning once every two years).

i thought the main event show (its a weekly show i think) would come on at 7pm central time..i dont think its replacing snl tho.. and they never said how long it would be to my knowledge...im assuming 2 hours tho seein the number of matches they have scheduled for it already tho

It's on 8-10pm. In its original run it sometimes replaced (repeats of) SNL, that's probably where the confusion comes from.

It's not a weekly show, it's a "special".
